FFL Holders' Vig

-I don't know how many, if any, of you have this issue in your community.
I live in California on the Central Coast. It seems that all the FFL holders within about a 50-mile radius have informally or formally(?) gotten together and have established a set price to handle transactions involving the individual purchase of guns that are shipped in from outside the area. Their fee is dependent on how much you paid for the gun!
This, coupled with the Federal and State fees, pretty much adds approximately $150+ to the auction price of any gun I might buy on GunBroker. So, I don't.
There are not many FFL storefront businesses in our area. These dealers seldom have anything of interest to me in stock. Should I ask them how much it would be for a special order of a new gun or to keep an eye open for a used gun of a particular type, the price is always a hefty notch above whatever similar, but not matching item they might accidentally have in stock.
Typically, their inventory of guns is small and their inventory of supplies and accessories is minimal, mostly the most banal, low end, useless stuff. Plus, most of them treat customers as if they are doing them a favor just to allow them in the door.
So, anyway, is this common elsewhere?

My local FFL charges $10, tax included for either a special order or an out of state transfer. I would be looking for a more gun friendly place to live![:0] 0 -
In the PRK there are built-in fees to the state on firearm transfers, but it also appears that the dealers do try to gouge their customers.
In my file drawer, I keep copies of FFLs grouped by state. The folder for the PRK has the fewest FFL copies, meaning that I have shipped the fewest guns there.0 -
Around here it's $15 to $25 per transfer....and it doesn't matter what you're transferring, the fee is fixed by each FFL, for whatever you're buying. 0 -

At my shop in Southern California we charge nothing for special orders. We do charge $30 for person-to-person transfers and out-of-state transfers. Sounds like you need to find a better ffl. 0 -
The day I start paying extra for a transfer, special order or NICS check is the day I start to think about slowing down on the purchases! 0 -
