No more bees=?
All this talk about the bee's all dieing off....what happens if this years crops are not polinated?

crops, trees, flowering plants.
less bees, less pollination, less plants come back next year.
people don't care about global warming- so what if glaciers melt? so what if a few plants, bugs and animals become extinct?
it's the things you don't think are important that are getting screwed up that affect everything else, that affect everything else, that affect what you do care about but had no idea it would be screwed up. bees are an example.
we can't allow global warming to happen thinking we're going to manage everything like one giant park. we can't think of everything, we can't do everything to keep a planet running.
don't F with it in the first place. the only answer is to put it back the way it was.
if we don't try to reverse it immediately -it may be too late- it will be unstoppable.
for example, the polar ice. when there's less of it, there's more dark colored areas than white colored areas, so that part of the planet gets warmer, and the ice can't refreeze in the winter.
for example, millions of acres of peat in the russian tundra. when it gets so warm (it's about there already) it will thaw and start to release methane, melting it further, and releasing yet more methane. you can't stop it.
there are more things that will go wrong that we didn't think of.
there are more consequences that we didn't think of.
but it can't be too bad, right?
in the next few decades, the temperate zones will become too hot and too dry to grow crops or even live in. barren desert. people will be forced to move north or south and water will become scarce.
you care about a good economy. how much distress do you think that will put on the economy if most people are forced to leave their home and relocate a few thousand miles north and buy a new house? how would you like to pay more for a gallon of water than you pay for a gallon of gasoline? if water becomes expensive, what do you think it will take to grow crops? you know cattle would be even more expensive. it may cost you more to keep yourself fed than it will to own a car or a house.
but people don't think that will happen.

good post bushm, but if we deny it global warning will go away, and since most of us seen 0 degrees this year for at least one day, how could the rest of the world be warming, and besides it must be a lie because al gore said it is true, thus making it automatically false 0 -
What worries me about man's exploitation of earth....
What was the PPM (parts per million) of oxygen in the air 100 years ago....and what is it today.
With so many people alive today and burning something...flying....driving...there ain't much to recreate the oxygen destroyed on a daily basis.
Maybe the bees are like the birds of the miners....we could be getting low on oxygen.0 -
Honeybees (which have been dying off) are not the only pollinators- but they are an important one. Commercial orchards hire beekeepers to set up hives to insure pollination of the crop. Have noticed a large increase in bumblebees around here- and they love the garden and flowerbeds. 0 -
Some think that GM crops which are designed to combat bad insects are the root of the problem 0 -

strange thing with honeybees here this year, I have three dog water bowls and a horse trough that are filled daily and they have been covered with honeybees and the water covered with dead bees in the last week any clues. Haven't seen any swarms nearby 0 -
Make me wonder with the aggressive eradication of the africanized honey bee, how many regular honey bees get caught up in the mix? Seems to me it must have some impact. 0 -

Yes it will but whether we are a part of it, and the shape we are in, is the question many of us care about.
Maybe it is just me but is seems to be the generation ahead of me which cares the least about the environment. Those who are 45 and older don't seem to care. From flipping cig butts out the car window to proper disposal of batteries and stuff it is the older folks who are the worst. Just my opinion based on my experiences.0 -
Global warming is not likely the cause of the bee die-offs. However, increased use of some pesticides is a more likely factor. Another theory is that the proliferation of cell phone towers and cell phone usage may have an effect on the bee's nervous system. I have had discussions with two Maine beekeepers this past week and both said that their hives were normal. Maine does not have as many cell phone towers and a smaller population, so maybe there is something to the cell phone issue. I do know that Maine blueberry growers are looking at increased costs this year because they have to import large numbers of bees. 0 -

The earth will change, as it has for eons, and it will get warmer and cooler. It did so without our help for a long time, and it will continue to do so without our help.
This planet may be getting warmer (or cooler, depending on whom you ask) but it is the height of ARROGANCE to imagine for a second that we humans had anything to do with that change, or that we can do anything to delay or stop it.0 -

yep! we have zero impact on the planet, the hole in the ozone was there way before we knew what ozone was, our energy consumption, and waste production could never effect this planet 0 -
