Is Iran going to try and block oil supply?
Heard something the other day about Iran may try to block off the oil routes in the Gulf near Iranian waters. Dick Cheney was on a Aircraft Carrier in the Gulf and he stated that would not be wise for Iran to do. Is their leader that stupid??

I guess if Iran wants to draw us into a war that would be one way to insure it happened.[:(] 0 -
if we did go to war with IRAN we would have to have a different strategy. Though they have a uniformed military, once we wiped them out they would probably resort to terror tactics. -dave- 0 -
There was concern about the same thing happening back in the 1980's but lucky for us our good Iraqi friend Saddam kept the Iranians at bay and there were only minor shipping disruptions. Does anyone know whatever happended to Saddam? He was such a solid friend of the United States that we could probably use his help again in such a tricky situation. Here is a photo of him meeting with "Rummy" as they were probably talking over the next purchase of weapons by his US friendly government.

He's still hanging around somewhere.0 -
Isn't Iran friendly to Pelosi she can run her big mouth if that would do any good. Reid,Pelosi,Kennedy should be tried for treason . 0 -
If Iran was attacked by the west it should be directed at the radical islam movement, moskes, clerics and the Head of the Government. Take that group out and then let the Iranian people clean house.
We should do most of it from the air and include the nuke facility and never make any attempt to enter the county.0 -

They can probably do it too -- with the cruise missiles the Chinese have sold them.
(The Chinese are our good trading partners; we've pretty much given them the technology that made the cruise missiles that will soon be attacking vessels in the Gulf.)0 -
I actually read an article that said that closing the Starits of Hormuz would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to do - even for Iran.
Foe one thing, modern supertankers are incredibly hard to sink... it pretty much takes a drunken captain and something as large as the state of Alaska to do it.
You also have to consider that Iran's supply of missiles, while large, is not infinite or highly mobile. It could inflict a lot of damage, but would it be enough to shut down the Straits before the U.S. Navy shot them to pieces or before they ran out of missiles?
And last but not least, Iran has been able to stonewall the West because the one card it has to play is the oil card - if they shut down the Straits to oil traffic, Europe and China no longer have any reason to play nice with them.
In short, it may be beyond Iran's capabilities to blockade the Straits and is most certainly not within their best interests.0 -
They wouldn't have to block the staights to cause havoc on the worlds oil market. Fire a couple of Silkworm's at a couple of tankers and we'll be paying $8/gallon for gas. They won't even have to hit anything. 0 -
Knock out their refinery and their electrical grid. They want to live in the 11th century lets help them out. Dave[:D] 0 -
I don't think they have refineries. I read somewhere that they import most of their gasoline. They just pump the oil out and put it in tankers for export. As electricity goes, they probably wouldn't even notice if we took out their grid. Just like Iraq (and the rest of the middle east) danged if you do, danged if you don't. 0
