My old man's backhand used to land,
Hard on the side of my head.
I just learned to stay out of his way.
There's been streetfights, blue lights,
Long nights with the world sittin' on my chest:
It just showed me how much I could take.
Hard times, bad luck.
Sometimes, life sucks.
That's all right, I'm ok.
It ain't nothin' but another day.

i hit the coffe pot HARD for 3 weeks. 0 -
coffee makes me nauseous. 0 -
Don't drink for two months.
Seriously.0 -
won't i get dehydrated???????j/k
drink, you mean weekend fun drink? no dude...don't say that.0 -
Whenever you get the urge, have someone kick you in the shin with steel toed boots. 0 -
zulu...
um....
i just wanna quit smoking, not walking.0 -
I've got about 3 months in on this go 'round of quitting. I never would have made it through the first 4 days without nicotine gum.
Get rid of all you ashtrays and lighters, rearrange your furniture, don't let the triggers get to you.0 -
Just try to keep in mind all the reasons you're quitting in
the first place. Every time you even consider lighting up
remind yourself of these things.0 -
well, like my brother says. SUCKS TO BE YOU!
You'll get through it. I quit 8 months ago, wasn't too bad. Too bad you can't handle coffee, it has a Similar effect.
And No you turds out there i did not say it has the SAME effect. People around here like to put words in yer mouth.0 -
If you're just trying to quit, give up now and go buy a pack. If you've decided that you have quit, congratulations. It'll get easier every day. Once you have told yourself that you're not going to smoke again the worst is over. I proved that you can drink coffee and beer and not have to smoke, but it was dang hard to drive a tractor because I about beat my chest to a pulp reaching for a cigarette every time I started that tractor.[:D]
If you don't quit now, you'll probably quit after your first health issue. I did.0 -
wow... for a second there i thought i didn't have anything to say in response. but then i relaized, "hey, it's me. i'm never at a loss for words."
ok, nicotine gum...tried it. burns my throat. so does the lozenges.
i've cut way way way back on soda, tea, and the like. i have started drinking more water. god how i miss mt. dew.
can't toss the ashtrays yet cuz my fiance still smokes.
i don't drive a tractor, but i am a delivery driver/installer for an auto glass company. all i do is drive and smoke. i know my ritual too. open door, climb into seat, close door, buckle seatbelt (always), put on my glasses, grab a smoke, put in gear and off i go.0 -
There is nothing that I have ever put my mind to that I 'couldn't do'
... only two choices I can see.[:D]0 -
lots of sex being one of those choices??????????? 0 -
Quit coffee and alcohol, chew lots of any old kind of gum. When you are alone ln your rig and want a smoke, scream yout lungs out. Chew on cinnamon sticks when you want a smoke. Change sides of the bed. Feed yourself lots of junk like chocolate coated raisons. When you want a smoke, take a big, deep smell of your ashtray - you know - the ones you never got around to cleaning.
Those are the things that I found I had to do to REALLY quit. Oh, yeah... if you are doing it to please someone else, you'll never quit. Be selfish - do it because you WANT to.
Good luck from,
Doug0 -
You could always just switch to those "left handed" cigarettes for a while. 0 -
doug,
i have 100% pure chocolate beans. good munchie food. highly recommend, if you can find. little bitter at first, but man what a rush of pure chocolate.[:D]
i am quitting for me. i wanna buy more guns.[:D][:D]0 -
Start exercising... When you can walk a few miles with out having to stop and catch your breath, you won't want to smoke again...
Good luck, hope you can stick with it..
Marc0 -
we already started exercising. today we played tennis. 0 -
Celery and/or carrot sticks, butterscotch hard candy.[:)] 0 -
carrot sticks sound good. 0 -
I still chew these:
And it's been about 7 years or so.

Like Dave said, curtail routines you associate with smoking; the symbiotic activities, such as lighting up after a meal, with a beer, or maybe while driving, have to be replaced with something else. Lollypops? 0 -

She's key to your success ... this might require a joint venture. I was a 3-packer when I quit cold turkey in 1982. I chewed lots of gum and avoided the smoking area and smokers. My wife didn't smoke and was instrumental to my success.
Substitute the smoking urge with something more beneficial/constructive (i.e. exercising, cleaning your gun/garage, doing honey-dos [}:)] etc ...) ... anything that would get you out of that predicament, even temporarily until you are disciplined and conditioned for the long-term solution.
I use to have a co-worker that does push-ups at work each time he had the urge to smoke. It worked for him.
Good luck!0 -
nicotine patches will get you through the first couple of weeks.
Cold turkey is only for people with something to prove. Nicotine patches help you break the habit first, and the addiction second. Trust me: The habit is the beeotch. After you break your routine of smoking, losing the nicotine addiction is a whole lot easier.
straws/toothpics will help.

...Committ Losenges, and keep hard candy in your pocket at all times, and in the house, in your truck. Get rid of all the realted items to smoking.
...After about 2 weeks, as per my doc, the nicotine and gunk that is in your system will be gone...or close. THEN, it is all in your head (the urge) and THAT is harder to deal with than the strange chems in your system, aint easy for most. Right now for you it may be hard when you see ANYONE smoking, but after about a month...THAT did not bother me at all. You will probably find yourself reaching to your pocket to get one, HABIT!...keep some hard candy in that pocket.
...It was a year this past April 1st...and I WANT one!

Stay busy is the biggest thing, Eat work eat work sleep. get up eat work work, work.. exercise and the first week will go buy so fast you'll never even know that you had a habit. I never smoked but chewed and i worked my A$$ off for two weeks all i wanted to do was sleep and as soon as i got home, then I was up back to work. exercised twice a day for a month and by the end of the month I was done. chewing gum helps but the biggest thing is to get what nic is stored in your system out as fast as you can and just keep moving. YOU'LL MAKE IT, GOOD LUCK 0 -
Mints etc all help replace the triggered response, I found smoking big fat nasty cigars to be helpful, when ever I wanted a cig I lit a nasty and yuck. Of course if you like Cigars that won't work. 0
