Should old acquaintance be forgot?

in my case, as i age, my friends and i grow in seperate ways and i learn how much we didnt have in common when we reunited. what made the friendship unique was....'the moment in time.'
try being buds with your buds from the military once you get out. it rarily works, because the military was what bonded you together. no military, no bond. yeah yeah, memories, but you can only repeat the stories so many times and it gets old. bonds weaken with age. within 10 years, everyone i knew was out and gone back home. i visit the base, their old neighborhoods, its like i never knew them, no trace.
such is life.
so what am i saying? enjoy your reuniting. take pictures! then youll shake hands and life will go on.
its never the same.
When I was separating from my girlfriend of 8 years, I tried calling a guy that I pretty tight with overseas. I had his mother's number in Wisconsin.
About 2 weeks later he called me. He cussed me for not having voice mail or an answering machine, said his mom kept asking him if he had ever called me.
He was still in the Corps! We shot the breeze for a few minutes and that was it. I wasn't online at the time or I woulda got his email.
Anybody else have "reunion" stories?

You had a girlfriend for 8 years?
I'm surprised she stuck around for that long. Most women want to get married or move on after no more than 3 years.
I once got in touch with a childhood friend. I think too much time had passed for us to reconnect. We had become totally different people.0 -
Just a favorite one[:D] 0 -
Been there-done that. Not much fun when it is like meeting a total stranger[:(]
However i am trying to reconnect with an old friend of 41 years as we speak but doesn't look like the contact will be made this day.0 -
I am in almost daily touch with my three best friends from high school via email. And phone about once a month. We are now planning our 25 year high school reunion so I just sent an email to the Brazilian exchange student that went to high school with us, to see if she can come up for the reunion. She has made all the others. It is good to see her every five years. She keeps asking us to go down to Sao Paolo for vacation, one of these days I am going to. She is an MD down there. Funny story about when she first came to the US to go to school with us in western PA. We all went to the community pool and she came out of the girls locker room with the tinniest bikini I had ever seen at that time, just three triangles and some string. One of the Moms quickly told her she couldn't wear it, and one girl lent her a spare one piece to wear. We guys were very disappointed. It would be quite ok now. 0 -
I moved back to my hometown 12 years ago, so I see a bunch of the old crowd rather regularly.
I've recently gotten back in touch with some of the guys in my division from the Navy Days.
We had many fine adventures.0 -
Still in touch with a few select friends from highshool (75'), that's
about it.0 -
I recently made an e-mail connection with a high school friend from 1960. We send an occassional joke back an forth but after 42 years I find we have grown in different directions and have very little in common.[:0] 0 -

I had a girlfriend longer than that. Of course it all ended when my wife found out. Don0 -
About 5 years ago, I decided to try to locate some old friends. I found a guy who had been ny closest friend in the Army, and formed a rock band with me when we got out. We played together for about 3 years, and then hung out for a couple after that. Life got busy, and we lost touch from around 1970 til 2003.
When we got back in touch, it was like the last time we had seen each other was a few days ago. Our friendship didn't skip a beat.
He lives about 1,000 miles away, but he and his family have visited us, and we him, several times. I speak to him almost daily on the phone.
I had expected that we would no longer have anything in common, but almost the complete reverse is true.
He and his wife are planning to move here to Orygun, to escape hellifornia when they retire in August.
Looking forward to getting in trouble together, again. Only, this time we might be more serious, because we don't have that much longer to live, and don't have a lot to lose.
I guarantee, that for some, paybacks from us are going to be a BI*CH.

My wife and I both had our 20 year H.S. reunion and I also had a college fraternity reunion last year. After the "what have you been up to, do you have kids, ect" I realized I don't have a lot to say to most of the people I used to hang out with. I quit getting together with some other friends that I ran around with in high school because none of us have anything in common anymore. It's just awkward and not fun. On the other hand, my three best friends from high school still get together and go fishing, hunting, shooting, ect. on a regular basis. In fact, we're all meeting in Dallas this summer to see the Police in concert just like we did back in '83. 0
