Taurus PT1911
Anyone got one, or had a chance to shoot one yet? Thinking about buying one, price is very attractive, worried about feed problems. I had a Charles Daly 1911, complete P.O.S. IMO

I was looking at one at the gunshop today and I like it. I was reading some old threads about it from last year but it still relatively new. Anybody have one and how is it? Worth the money? 0 -

According to EMM and Ba Sardo, this is another brilliant Brzailian design, right up there with the PT92. 0 -

By far the best 1911A1, dollar for dollar on the market IMHO. I've shot two differant examples over the last year, both ran like a champ, and shoot straight. I haven't come up with a good enough reason to by another 1911, but if I could I would buy the PT. For what it's worth.

Taurus turns out some good stuff for the money. I don't really care for 1911's, so I couldn't say for certain if it was worth the price or not.0 -
I think a buddy of mine has one of these. Seems to like it okay, or at least I haven't heard any complaints. I'll email him and see if it is indeed a Taurus and if it is, what he has to say about it. 0 -

I own two 1911s and I love them both. Sure, they need tender loving care to operate properly, but the all metal construction means that if it jams, I can wallop the heck out of anyone left standing with it. 0 -

I have about 250 rounds through mine. Not one problem. The only change I made is to put the Hogue monogrip on it.

500+ rounds through mine. I use it to compete at bowling pin shoots as well. FANTASTIC pistol. Can't say enough good about it. 0 -

...You need a reason? Since the Taurus is "your" 1911 of choice , I can understand the dilema. Why not but a Colt? The ORIGINAL and still the BEST 1911 out there...the one everybody TRIES to copy, but cant quiet get there...[;)]0 -

My buddy got back to me and said he's a fan. Said he's only put about 200 rounds through it, but no problems thus far.0 -
The PT1911, whatever the quality or price directly competes with very well made and reasonable priced U.S. manufactured 1911's from Colt, Kimber, and S&W (for example). The U.S. manufacturer will always get my money.
It is high time American gun buyers actually put some thought into what it means to be an American. Whenever you have comparable items and one is American made, make that one yours.0 -
I have one and I love it. I have put about 600 rounds threw it with out a single malfunction. For the price these are great!!! The only thing that I changed on mine was the plastic grips.

Quite possibly the best .45 on the market..for double the price.
I put a couple hundred rounds thru one...a 7 time pistol champ that happens to be highway patrol stated to me..after putting 400 rounds thru the same Pt1911..that he would stick the .45 in a holster and go on patrol...that is what he thought of it.
I am not much of a pistol shot...but I could keep most rounds under the palm of my hand at 25 yards. Had not one bobble of any sort..not a stovepipe, not a failure to feed..nada.
On the basis of it and 3 others that I know about..good pistol.
As far as the cracks about "Buy American" or you have turned your back on war dead...
Let me tell you what is dishonoring war dead...building snit and selling it for a huge price.
For many years, I drove Datsuns. Care why ? At 100,000 miles, I could pull the head and pan off and put in a set of rings and bearing..STANDARD...and drive the vehicle another 150,000 miles...American Iron..(I bought a new 1973 Ford 4-wheel drive..360 engine)..at 60,000 miles the engine was SHOT..had to be bored .030 over...and that was absolutely typical of nearly every 283, 302, 235..I ever pulled down.
Build junk and I don't buy.
Colts are a joke..give 700 bucks for one and spend another 800 bucks getting what you get for 529 bucks from Taurus...0 -
I will gladly pay twice for a comparable American made product because I know the craftsmen and line workers that put that pistol together are being paid a living wage.
I will probably buy a Taurus 24/7 OSS-DS when it becomes available as it is a unique item that has no U.S. made counterpart. For a 1911, however, I will stick with S & W and Kimber. The extra money is putting food on a countryman's table and supporting a proud American industry. I have not seen any figures, but one would expect that S & W and Kimber's profit margins are no higher and probably lower than that of Taurus.
Supporting American manufactures that produce junk simply because they can is ridiculous. That is not the situation here. I would stop short of saying that purchasing a Taurus PT1911 or a RIA 1911 is un-American, but it is at best neutral.0
