The AK 47.[;)] 0 -
Dang, I wanted to be first. 0 -
AK, austria and a few others- AUG, Germany- G-36, brits- that L85 bullpup, i think singapore uses its own bullpup (SAR-21?), then you got the french FAMAS,
You also mentioned "Battle" rifle, not Assault rifle, and Im not sure where the "commonly accepted" definitions came from, but basically alot of people say Assault rifles are small calibers like .223 and 7.62x39mm, and battle rifles are .308 or larger, so technically (but not technically since battle/assault rifle are not technical terms) we'd be discussing rifles like the M-14 series, the FAL, SVD Dragunov, etc right?
I assume you just mean common service rifles, because after all there are people that argue there is no such thing as an "assault rifle"0 -
If not AK then FN-FAL 7.62x51 0 -

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.0 -

Frogbert,
The HK 416 is running into some trouble. Apparently having a more reliable feeding system for the M4 is "too expensive."[xx(]

Oh. Sorry. [V]0 -
i guess it is all in the word interpretation. service rifle would have maybe been a better term but battle rifle sounds more noble. I always figured the m16 was a battle rifle i figrue someone has someone has a little resentment of the .223. 0 -

buschmaster,
I do believe that Isreal has now adopted the M4 and M16 as their main battle rifle/long arm.0 -

Just one point of order: The Swedes and Norwegians use the G3 (actually, a locally-produced version thereof), not the Valmet. Only Finland uses it.0 -
AK 47 work's for me.[;)] 0 -
Busch beat me to it. 5.56 is not a battle cartridge, IMHO.
If you've shot both, and I'm sure you have, the punch of 7.62NATO can't be beat.
If I was defending the wire, I'd sure want the heavier rifle.0 -

Need I say more?0 -
My favorite BATTLE rifle is the FN 49 it reminds me of a Supercharged SKS 0 -

Well, yes. I find it rather ironic and amusing that you post a picture of an AK-74 with that slogan.
Perhaps "Kalashnikov: Because..." would be better.0 -
