He survived the Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor...
And we laid him to rest today. My mom's uncle, Kenneth Krause, who served with great pride in the United States Navy from 1940 to 1948. Uncle Kenny and his brother Delbert Krause were both on stationed on the mighty Oklahoma in 1941. Uncle Detz, as we called him, was on the dock when the bombs fell. Uncle Kenny was in the bottom of the ship somewhere when it was hit. He said he climbed up thru one of the main turrets to escape before she rolled over. They both survived that day. They both have died within the last year. I ask of you a quick prayer and a thank you to both of these fine american men who laid it all on the line for all of us!

What that generation endured to give us the freedom to chat on this forum today is impossible to repay.
My Uncle flew 25 B-17 missions over Germany out of England and Italy. I am amazed that he is still sharp as a tack at age 87, but I know he is not long for this world. The fear that they felt I hope we never experience. Their experiences are responsible for the strong characters that they have today.
It is/was a great generation. I salute you for knowing your two uncles and recognizing their contribution.0 -
"The Greatest Generation" is made up most of our (older guys on this forum) Dads and Uncles. I have the greatest respect for them. I had a total of eight Uncles (all passed on now), they all served in one of the Armed Forces or the Merchant Marines. My own Father was a medic in the ETO. God Bless them all!

Guns-and paint horses: May they rest in peace. My cousin Ray Kelly was
on the Arizona when sunk at Pearl. He survived. Shortly was transferred to the Air Craft carrier USS Yorktown which was later sunk.
Again he survived. He survived the war and died recently. Like cousin Ray, myself my only brother and my dad served in WW 2 as did many relatives and friends. Seems hard to believe but one out of nine people
of our TOTAL population served in the military during WW 2. Yes, over
16,000,000 of us served in WW 2 from a total population of about
150,000,000.0 -

Rest in Peace and may their family be blessed. Both of my Grandpa's fought in WW2 along with all their brothers and one of their sister's husbands. The only one that is still with us is my Dad's dad who flew on 37 missions as a top-turret gunner on B-17's in Europe. He stayed in the service and retired in 1968. Still sharp as he was 20 years ago and I can sit for hours and listen to his stories. I wished I had payed more attention to the ones that past away when I was younger. 0 -
