    147 grain FMJ. After a couple of days, you can almost keep up with them.[:D]



    Really, I like the old Federal 150 grain pointed soft point-might have been called the Hi-shok. I only shot a couple of deer with it but neither of them ever took a step. One was a 6-pt buck-shot in the neck and the other was a 200+ lb doe shot through the chest.

    On top of that, they would shoot MOA from a Remington 742.

    What kinda deer? Here in my little section of CA the coastal deer are small. It would be like shooting a gofer with a RPG. Not trying to change Cal.'s on you, other than large hogs my .308 with a 150gr sierra
    game king or .270 win with a 130gr. Soft point works fine.

    But to be honest, Our model 99 .250/3000 Savage with a 90gr bullet has more CA deer kills than any other in the Gun safe.

    everyone has a favorite brand, type weight, and cal. all will kill a deer some doesn't mind tracking deer that run a ways where others like myself like them to hit the ground and not get back up. it is the choice of the hunter. in some places close if a deer makes it 100 yards someone else has been known to shoot and claim the deer. this has happened to me before and i'm sure it has happend to some of you. no insult intended, and i hope none taken.
