AK underfolder

OK. I have a little cash and want an AK underfolder in 7.62 x 39 with all black furniture. To answer the inevitable question: it'll be a plinker and I want it just because I still don't have an EBR...and I think the underfolder stocks look cool. Budget: hopefully under $500, but I could go over that for the right rifle.

I searched the archive on 'underfolder' and read what came up. Now I want more input on what to buy.

Here's what I think I know:

WASR's are not great.
Norinco's are great, but spendy and a little difficult to find.
Yugo's are a good compromise between cost and quality.

I'm going to be offline for close to a week, but will eagerly read your input when I return. It would be awesome if you-all could get into a raging war over the relative merits of the different options so that I can see what people do and don't like about the various brands.

    ok i called joeken today to see if my ffl arrived , and they said it was there , and regards to the vectors arms underfolder ,they have advirtised they said it would be at least 2 weeks maybe 2 and a half before they could ship one because they have a waiting list for them , so wanting wanting one i said fine , so i paid for it and now await my new toy , and i know they horror stories but i have only recently started doing business with them , although i have never ordered a firearm , but have had good luck so we shall see , and will be able to let everyone know how it goes..

    the thing that scares me is that we could be living in someone else's own reality

    AK underfolders--all of them--are flimsy and provide piss poor lockup, making an already marginally accurate rifle even less accurate. But hey, you'll look real cool missing shot after shot.

    I would go with the yugo, I don't have any personal experience with one but if I was to buy one that would be what I would get, I was once thinking of a underfold but eventually decided I would like to get regular stock and I am thinking of going with the yugo m70.

    for a plinker I went WASR (not an underfolder). I can hit clay pigeons at 50 yards with surplus ammo, plenty accurate for a cheaper fun gun in my book. I got a ton of rounds through it and an occasional wipe down re-oil is the only maintenance it needs (I do snake the barrel after every trip to the range)

    I have the Yugo, and love it, well made and functions flawlessly!!!

    I have no complaints with my WASR-10! I can keep my shots within the size of a pie plate with no problems at 100 yards. Mine is not an underfolder but it is a great little gun and plenty fun to shoot.

    I can't speak for the current production, but I've seen on the AK boards that they are still a favorite.

    I had an early Yugo underfolder for a while ... it seemed solid and well built, lock up was good, the underfolder seemed heavier than on the Norinco and Poly-Tech's I've had in the past ... but that could be just my imagination.

    Bottom line, the Yugo I had was a good value and if I were to buy another it's most likely what I'd go with. The only reason I sold it because I wanted the cash more than I did another AK, I had a Yugo RPK and a Hungarian AMD-65 I'd built up from kits and didn't really "need" it.
