e-coli in drinking water
Is there a water purifier that would filter e-coli out of well or spring water?

There are some that bombard the water with ultra-violet light, which kills ALL the bad stuff.

Distillers kill everything, and reverse Osmosis will filter the bad stuff out, BUT if it continues, then you have to be very careful with membrane and filter replacements.
We have a distiller here, to remove heavy metals like Arsenic and Cadmium from our wellwater. Makes perfect ice cubes for drinkies, too.0 -

I think that a half and half mixture of bourbon and water should kill
the bacteria. Kinda reminds me of a old joke, where a WCTU (Womans Christian Temperance Union) gal walked into a crowded bar with 2 glasses. One had a dead worm in in it with whiskey. The other glass held only water with a worm swimming in it happily. She said, it clearly shows a lesson about water and whiskey. Hell yes, "drink enough whiskey and you wont have worms" yelled the drumk at the bar.0 -
It is probably coliform, not ecoli in your water. 0 -

from what source is it getting in there?
reverse osmosis would work, i seen the uv light on several programs but don't know enough to give an opinion0 -
E - coli are found in the intestinal tract of all warm blooded animals. They are present in dust, blown around in the air, etc. The secret is to seal the top of the well with a "sanitary seal", which makes the well air-tight, so you have to put a screened vent into the seal(there should be a place for it already drilled and tapped). These can be purchased at plumbing supply houses, Lowes, etc. I spent 30 years doing inspections of water systems for the Texas Department of Health,and this is the standard construction of a proper well. Also, just before you install the seal, take a 5 gallon bucket, add 4 gallons of water and 1 gallon of household bleach, and pour it down the well, letting it run down the sides of the casing. Install the seal, turn the well on and off a few times to mix the bleach water, the turn it on, open ALL the faucets, including outside taps, the bathtub, sink, and flush the commode a couple of times, and run them until you can smell chlorine. Shut all the faucets and let the system sit overnight. Flush the faucets next morning until you cannot smell chlorine. System should be ok then. But you must protect the wellhead to keep the well clean!

When I go backpacking, I carry a water filter that gets rid of both bacteria and viruses, and its a hand pump- beats iodine tabs. Im sure they have larger versions for well water.
And most E. coli isn't dangerous at all its media scare tactics mostly, like treating all honey bees as africanized killer bees.
But the presence of E. coli is indicative of fecal contamination, and you probably have alot of other bacteria like Enterobacter and such in there as well, in addition to the Bacillus that is found in soil anyway.
Anthrax is also commonly found in the soil, but isn't dangeroud unless its weaponized to "float" in the air in an aerosol form and get in your lungs- stomach acid will destroy it.
How do you know its E. coli? and I'm sure its not just e coli, and it may still be safe to drink - pending tests on what strain of E coli it is.
And UV light won't kill everything, but its good enough in general, just don't leave it on constantly, but rather irradiate it before pumping out more water, if its on all the time, the UV tolerant stuff will grow and be the dominant organism in the water. If the UV is off most of the time, the other bacteria will outnumber it and it won't be able to grow that much, and then when it comes time to drink from the well, you turn on the UV and get rid of 99.9% of the stuff in it.0 -
E coli is from drinking water with human waste (sewer) in it.
The USDA says we consume 20 gallons a year of human waste that has been thru others guts.0 -
Not us! We Distill all our drinking water...got a Pure Aqua distiller-all stainless and glass. 1 gallon per three hours.
Takes us from 35ppm TDS (not bad for well water) to .5PPM TDS, with anything remaining having been boiled @ 212F.
Besides, now all our icecubes now are glass/water clear, not even any bubbles. Makes the Drinks taste better!0
