where is the best place to buy a new computer ??
well after many years I guess I am going to have to break down and buy a new computer, this one was built when Windows 98 was brand new and an intel celeron 184 mg processor was fast, its too old to upgrade to a new operating system and everything/everyone is dropping Windows 98,I am even loosing Norton as a antivirus,,I hear bad things about Dell's service,I remember hearing one of the talking heads,,Boortz or Hannity hawking a computer company with a all in 3 year warranty but I dont remember their name,,,so give me Ideas, people and companies to look at,,,,,Thanks

The best prices are after Christmas and before April 15. I got my HP Laptop from CompUSA (they can actually fix them if needed). It will soon be three and no real problems so far. Kim Komando has a buying guide at Kamando.com , I could have save $300 by not getting the 2 year extra warrenty but that how it goes sometimes. 0 -
Macintosh, HP (compaq), dell, all good comps..
Emachines is getting better, and acer i wouldnt trust for my life.
do NOT get vista.0 -
We bought a Dell almost two years ago. Zero problem. 0 -
OH. dont get any from WALMART!!!!!!!

I haven't bought a new computer in years. Try www.saveateagle.com
That's where I bought the last few. One that is a refurb, a year or two old, and fully loaded is A LOT cheaper than a brand new one that will be obsolete in 6 months.0 -
I have a COMPAQ. No problems yet. 0 -
office max advertised a new hp color printer with good internet reviews for $40 that we wanted for our laptop use at lake....we called OM in wichita & Eric said we got them & one will be at counter with your name on it...90 miles later, walked in, he helped with extras & checked out, boom bada boom, & back home....great shopping experience 0 -

Acer owns both E-Machine and Gateway,They bought them back in August,They kept the names for markiting but all are based out of Taiwan..0 -
Wouldn't have anything but a Dell. Owned 3 Dell's----no problems at all. Believe what you want! 0 -
Boortz touts "Vision Computers".
I have had 3 Dells now, and no problems either.
Customer service may stink, but I have never had to call them.
Comps are a "personal" thing to some folks!0 -
Staples now sell Dell computers. That was easy!![:D] www.staples.com 0 -
Another vote against Acer's.
My wife's computer has logged more frequent flyer miles than we have in the first year she had it.
Back and forth to Texas, that's where Acer is based in America...0 -
Buy the parts and build it yourself
tigerdirect.com or zipzoomfly.com have good deals.0 -
I have bought all of mine at Best Buy. They have a very liberal return policy that I have used a few times. 0 -

Along that line, My next desk top will be built by local computer geeks.
Surprisingly enough, they service what they sell for about the same price and with Good parts made the way you wish.0 -
I went to Dell's website to buy a new one, everything there has the Vista operating system so I called customer service to ask about getting XP ,they told me if I wanted a Dell I have to take Vista ,take it or leave it,,guess I will leave it with their attitude,I now see why consumer reports say Dell has more complaints filed with them than all other companies combined, going down to Little Rock this weekend,I will hit all the places like Best Buy and find me something, thanks for the replies, gave me some good ideas 0 -
Apple store, buy a MAC

Apple.....the mac mini.
Quietest PC....uses hardly any power. Why? They shoved the inards of a laptop into this itty bitty box.
You can buy it with Windows on it if you must have windows.
but why? Apples operating system is better. I'm never going back to Microshaft.0 -

That was a decade ago. Apple's PC's have unix based operating systems now and are also available with Windows. It can run both operating systems.
Apple's are PC's, and the most secure.0 -

That ain't quite true. You can still get particular Dell computers with XP. Go here.
You can, also, purchase refurbished Dell computers from Dell with XP--->here.
I've purchased refurbished Dells and had no problems. They do not come with a monitor; but, you can save some $$$$ on the desktop and they come with the full warranty.
Forget about talking to a Dell salesman---they have no idea what's going on---order online.0
