Scope for 45/70?
I'm getting me a new pig I've decided it will be a NEF in 45/70 gov't cause where I'm taking it I dont want to take the lever gun, and this will be for meat not take out as many as I can so one shot will do me. So you have 200-300 for scope, mounts everything what would yall get? Ranges from 5-100yds

A low power variable.
I have a 2X-7X leupold that is nice and compact with decent eye relief.
Not as clear and bright optically as my much lower priced Nikon though.0 -
I have three Marlin .45-70 rifles. On top of two of them I have old Weaver K2.5 scopes that I bought off eBay. One has been on the rifle for over five years and I have never had to adjust it once since it was zeroed. The long eye relief is just the ticket for the .45-70. I see where Pentax now offers one very similar for under $130 which is a really good deal for a Pentax. The best set-up I have is on a 1895GS Guide Gun with One Ragged Hole apertuire sight as a replacement for the rear blade and a Weaver K2.5 mounted on Warne qucik disconnect rings. This is my got-to hog killer. 0 -
My Marlin 45/70 had a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5 on it. Clear, Bright, and held zero, even with the stoutest Buffalo Bore ammo. Around $65 for the scope
Ended up having a Burris Fullfield II 3x9-40 that wasn't being used, so now it sits on it. Even clearer, even brighter, and holds zero. I forget what they cost, but it's in your price range.

On my Marlin 1895 I've used a couple old Weaver scopes, a K2.5 and a K4. They've never let me down. They've hung in there under the heaviest loads I've been able to feed it. Dave 0
