Home defense/carry ammo question
I normally have Corbon 115 gr. JHP (1350FPS/466FTLBS), but someone recently has recommended federal HydraShok claiming that Corbon can actually be too fast to open and go through. Any opinions on this? What ammo do you normally carry or have at home for defensive purposes?

I carry federal hydrashock, But I'm not to picky as long as it's not ball ammo I'm good. 0 -
I use HydraShoks too. Mainly because I like the performance that I saw first-hand in ballistic gelatin. 0 -

For my 9mm Hi-power I use Federal Premium Personal Defense loads. They are 124 grain Hydra-Shok Jacketed Hollow Point. No particular comparison, I just like their performance. 0 -

They are wrong. The fast 115 grainers are one of the best rounds to carry in 9mm. I know quite a few cops that are very happy with the end results of what that round does. I carry it myself, by choice.0 -

Now, do you have any factual data to back that up? I am sure they all do the job just fine, but what makes 115 gr. better than 124?0 -
I use to carry Corbon in my 9mm and have made several 1 shot kills on injured deer. I would have no worries having to defend my self with them.
I know I said use to, I now carry the Corbon PoweRball ammo. It is all the good of the standard round with a polymer ball added to increase feeding in autos. The tip is claimed to do a few more things too. I have not had a chance to shoot anything with it yet, but I am sure it is at least as good as the standard stuff.0 -

As far as Ballistic gelitan tests go I don't think you get an accurate perfomance test and you get skewed results.
How many burglars run around nakid?
The only way to properly get a good test result with Ballistic gelitan
is to put a leather jacket and a couple shirts on the block before you shoot it. And some bones in it.

I carry Hydrashoks chambered in .40 or .45 for my carry. At home though I use 12 gauge 00 Buckshot. 0 -

Some good information to know regarding home defensive ammo loads in case a " MAD " block of ballistic gelatin comes crashing through the door of my abode in the wee hours of the morning.... !!!
It's more likely to be one of our " friends (??) " here, or a
" wanna be martyr " , spewing forth religious mantras / sayings in Arabic as he bursts through the door...
If possible, a book, paper, or other verifiable source of actual home owner / police shooting against " perps " and loads being used would be a better source of this type of information, if it is available to the general " joe " in the populace.
A Massad Ayoob book seems to be a possibility for this info, just a guess, but I could be wrong...0 -

I try to carry Winchester Lawman in my .40 calibers, going to .357 sig and 9MM I use Corbon or Triton. I do have some Federal Hydra Shok ammo. I carry 185GR+P Federal Expanding Full Metal Jacket. Hang a burlap sack up in a tree filled with sand, ensureing you have a safe background. Shoot the 40lb sack with a 9MM = doesnt move. Now shoot it with a .45 230gr FMJ and she will swing. The .40 also will rock the hanging sack of sand etc. 0 -

Did not say they are BETTER, said they are ONE of the best. Nothing wrong with the 124 grain +P either, like the Gold Dot.0 -
