Might as well tell everybody...
This is to explain a part of the Box O Gun Goodness that mm8nambu won. It just hit the mails, by the way - should arrive in a couple of days.
I have made and competed with Kites all over the World for nearly 25 years, and as part of the whole scene, there are all sorts of competitions - biggest kite (presently about the size of a basketball court, with a tail that can be hundreds of feet long), smallest kite (presently about the size of your little pinkie fingernail, if you are a small person), fastest (present record is over 130 MPH) and so on. Tents and banners abound, all custom made with colors and logos, and names, and funny sight gags, sayings, and so on.
You're all wondering , "just what in the Sam Hill do Kites have with Guns?" - I'll get there presently!
Well, among all my Kiting Community friends, nearly all are either old hippies, or Liberal, artsy types. After all, in order to compete, your art and color choices, and so on have to be interesting, and the sewing has to be perfect, just like in Quilting.
Anyway, since I am sorta a brat, I wanted to twist their sensibilities a little, and I came up with an idea for a "club" that would operate under the main activitiy of Kiting Festivals - everybody trades Pins that commemorate their festival, their club, their kites, or their logo, and I HAD to do something! So, my "club" is the "Tahoma Kite and Gun Club" - motto is: "If it aint' a purty kite, it is a Target!" Scares all the libs that we even talk about guns!! So once a year, when the carnival of kiting is here in the Glorious NorthBest, I host a Chili Feed (or whatever sort of party my twisted palate and mind come up with) and KiteBlast, where we shoot kites!! The pin is given to anyone who attends.
Anyway, Walt, if you look at the pin, you will see Mount Ranier (Tahoma to the local Indians), and an ugly kite beginning to crash. The kite has five holes in it, and a red pipper where the next one is going!
