    Thats a nice 175.00 SKS

    I have seen guys lose on a firearm purchase and try to make it back when they sell it. maybe this guy was took and actually payed 500.00 for this sks and now he is desperatly trying to break even after he found out it is a 175.00 rifle.

    I have a 1963 Navy Arms catalog that had Russian SKSs at $275. That is when there were rare in the US. The same catalog has used single action Colts starting at $59 and Webley revolvers for $20.

    That one looks like a Russian rearsenalled. Maybe a little more than $175 but not $500. Also the wood removed for the hi cap mag detracts from the value IMO.

    I recall when Chinese factory SKS conversions to AK mags went for $600. I think they were all Chinese with a model designation difference from the Std SKS.
    Home grown conversions got mixed reviews on reliability and were not recommended by gun writers.
    A good question for the seller would be "Who did the conversion?"

    The factory sks with set up for AK magazines were the DM models. The DM never could use the standard fixed mags.
    The Standard sks that have their fixed mag removed can then use the funky detatchable sks magazine but not an AK magazine.

    Looking at some of the seller's other auctions, it would appear they are a gun shop.

    Apparently not too knowledgable about the SKS as they state the factory magazine "appears to hold 7 rounds."

    I own 5 sks from different arsenals. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about and it won't sell for HALF that price. There IS a lot of confusion about the sks, though. I cause MOST of it! [}:)]

    I'm no expert, but I've learned a little since I got my C&R license and started collecting Soviet rifles in earnest. I've seen two markings on the top of the receiver cover of the rearsenalled guns. One looks like this: [/], and the other looks like this: <>, but verticle instead of horizontal. The one in the auction has neither. I've also learned that up to early 1951, the guns had a different bolt design from the ones from late 1951 on, and that the bolt carrier was black instead of silver (shiny) colored, as was the bayonet. This was (of course) to cut glare during combat. The rearsenalled guns had the silver bolt carrier and newer bolt design. It looks like the rifle in the auction is a 1951 model, with the correct bolt setup, but not the bayonet. At any rate, even an original non-rearsenalled Russian SKS isn't worth over $300 tops. Not to mention the fact that Bubba buggered it up to use hi-cap mags.

    Tough to tell, Rock, about whether its re-arsenaled. Usually have the square with horizontal line, on the stock, but this has insufficient pics. The black bolt was USUALLY on the later models, but I have seen a few on 50&51 if the bolt needed cosmetic help. Bottom line, if it was Puurrrrrrfect, then $300 tops. They're all headed up, for some strange reason.[?]

    My buddy back home got one almost exactly like that. Is that a Russian specimen?
