What do YOU think of the pull out time line Congress is trying to set?
I am trying to ignore the media's agenda and trying to get the idea from the real folks that are doing the job.

I was there 16-17 years ago for the first war...so I don't know if my opinion counts or not, BUT Congress has NO business trying to micromanage a war. The President is our Commander in Chief and it's Congress's job to provide the funding our military needs. I would classify the actions of the Democrats in Congress as Treasonous and pathetic. They are undercutting our President, our military, and America in the eyes of the world. Both Parties voted to start this war...and now the yellow Democrats want to cut and run...they are worse than the damn French.

My question is exactly why the Democrats want us out before the 2008 Novemeber elections? All indictions are that we'll be stuck in that miserable hell hole well beyond 2008 (or 2018 the way things are going) so why not use that to their advantage by running against anyone who is keeping us there? Pulling our troops out in 2008 will allow Bush to take all of the credit, whether or not it was his own idea. 0 -
Congress's only job in a war is to tell the President if he can declare war and dedicate troops to the conflict. They have no buisness telling the troops how to run the fight, nor should they have the power to cut funding while the troops are still fighting and still willing to fight.
I have a feeling that the troops will always be willing to fight as long as there's an enemy and a chance for victory.0 -
Congress grants the POTUS the power to wage war. What they grant they can take away.
One way in which they can take away the Presidents power to wage war is to cut off funding like was done in Vietnam.0 -
Cutting funding and forceing a deadline will only get more of our soldiers killed. Is that what congress wants? You gotta have bullets to protect yourself. 0 -

I havent fought over there but here is my two cents.....
There are a few different issues here. One is politics. As a republican and war endorser I support President Bush. However, I also believe the American politicial system is about the citizens determining policy, not the leaders. Our leaders are supposed to impliment the will of the people.
I think it would be wise for America to stay in Iraq longer and see it through but I also believe that the American public, through recent elections, polls and congressional votes has said to the president "we want to be out of Iraq by a certain date". Although I disagree with this policy I believe it is the will of the citizens and the President has no right to defy the will of the citizens. If congress passes the bill and the Americna public supports the bill then the president should follow it.
Next issue..what will leaving Iraq by a specified date (2008) mean ? Well I for one have no clue but I am actually kind of curious to find out. As a war supporter I am open to the idea that things might get better in the region if we have a substantial pullout. However, I think it is best to stay.
One more thing, the date set by democrats for the pull out is shamefully obvious in its political ramifications. Why dont they set the date for AFTER the elections ? Why dont they set the date for next month ?0 -

1.) the president NEEDS no authority to commit troops or initiate active military operations.
2.) you are absolutely correct about the funding: the executive controls the sword, but congress has the power of the purse, without which most any other power of any branch or organ of the govt. is useless.0 -
how about this question....if democrats order american troops out of iraq and the situation turns into utter choas and violence in the greater region with iran moving into iraq, will they send american troops back in ? 0 -
Well, at least congress has set a date for surrender. If it has been decided that we will eventually surrender, and it appears that we have, then the date doesn't really matter that much. 0 -
Why pull out of Iraq so soon when we've been in Korea in a cease fire for over 50 years.
Does anyone know if we've spent more on the Korean War over the past 60 years or so than the Iraq War?0 -
