quote:Surely he must be boiling mad at his heirs for banning ammo and firearm sales at most Wal-Mart stores, don't you think?

I doubt it. He probably would have done the same, what with all the crazy federal laws concerning ammo and gun sales now. Not to mention the "sue happy" folks who would glady sue Sam if their loved ones murderer bought the weapon from Wal-Mart.

...Oh man...I thought this was going to be an exciting white knuckle gut clinching thread about Grampa "Dull-ton"...the old man from the old TV show The Dull-ton's, how dissapointing...[V]

I had a neighbor once that 'Ol Grampa Dull-ton was her uncle, for real. He used to come visit her....a very very different kinda guy..."bi" the way...[:0] serious...[;)]

    Goodnight John Boy!

Seriously though. Many Wal Mart stores banned ammo sales after 10pm. I remember wanting to go turkey hunting in SC when I was at Fort Jackson for recruiter school. We had a place to hunt and everything. We got released late from class, showered/changed, got a bite to eat and then hit Wal Mart for hunting supplies. We couldn't buy the shotgun shells! That freakin' kills me. That's just PC stupidity if I've ever seen it.

Stopping firearms sales is a completely different matter. It's a good thing for the little guys who own/operate their own gun stores. I don't mind Wal Mart making $$$ but there is a silver lining in every cloud.

I'd be interested to learn just what percentage of WalMarts profits were generated through the sales of firearms and ammunition. With the gradual decline in the numbers of hunters and shooters in the USA, firearms and ammo sales were probably more trouble than they were worth for a company like Wally World. I doubt if too many local sporting goods dealers shead a tear when WalMart stopped selling guns and ammo.

Yeah, Sam Walton NEVER cared about the money. That's why he died worth something like 20 Billion dollars.

Actually, the profit margin for firearms at Wal Mart is/was almost nothing. That's not why they sold firearms. That's why the little guy had such a hard time competing. Wal Mart's profit margin was almost nothing which meant the little guy couldn't afford to stock firearms at a profit margin that would keep him in business.

Sam Walton's son was a member of the armed forces (can't remember if he was Army or Marine Corps) and a highly decorated Vietnam vet. I doubt very seriously it was his decision to ban firearms sales.

Wal-Mart isn't "banning" firearm sales. They are still readily available (at very good prices) at my wal-mart which just added a modest but respectable reloading section. It became economically unfeasible to continue to sell them at SOME locations when other, higher profit margin items can be sold in the same place and the company and shareholders can make more money as a result.

It was not Walmart's decision to stop selling guns in California, it was the California state DOJ that said they could no longer sell guns due to mishandling paperwork.

By the end of this year, ALL Wal-Marts will stop gun sales. That comes from my brother-in-law who is a regional manager over West KY, Southern IL, and parts of MO. The ones here moved them all out this past spring.
