Conservation Officer

Does anyone know what it takes to apply/qualify for a Conservation Officer job? I think i would enjoy the job very much. Just wondering in case of lose of job before 2010, so i can get required schooling. Are there any CO's on the forum?

    The first thing you will probably need is a college degree in that particular field. I can't speak for other states but here in Wisconsin, one of the state colleges offers the schooling.

    A game warden is sort of a glorified cop. Essentially 100% of his clientel will be armed. Wildlife biologist has all the fun. You will need a degree in law enforcement for the first, and a degree in Wildlife management/biology for the second. Your chances for wildlife biologist will be enhanced with a masters or docterate. There are more game warden jobs available in most states most years, because there is more turn over.

    In Indiana (where the OP lives) a Conservation Officer is a State Police Officer and has all the authority thereof.

    a college degree and a Criminal Justice one would help. You can probably get in without one but you would probably be looking checking stickers at the gait and filing in fire pits

    Here in SC there is almost no turn over,so you have to wait until someone retires or dies to get hired.On the other hand you can't get hired unless you are related or are good friends with the correct high officials in state government.

    its why there is a big turnover.

    now, if you were smart, join the military, get college paid for you by uncle sam, and go into smoke jumpers.
