    So? We teach the kids to do what? Crouch behind this damn thing until the shooter walks up closer and leans over the kid and pops him/her in the head?

    This is about as effective at getting out alive as the DUCK AND COVER drills of the 50s/60s. Yeah those wooden desks were really gonna keep us alive from a nuclear detonation.

    that looks like a piece of sheet metal corvered in kevlar(sp) and does not look comfortable to cary in or on a backpack.

    I thought civilians could not buy and own a bullet proof vest, so how could they own these if that is the case? Or am I wrong? Another case of depends on where you live?
