Yep, it's coming for next year. That, at least, is the information coming from Indy at this time. Rules are always subject to change.[:)]

I've been praying that Il. will do the same. There is a certain Ruger # 3 in .44 mag that really wants to go deer hunting.

Now if we can just talk them into letting us use actual rifles.[:)]

How much farther will normal rifle rounds go than the pistol rounds out of a long barrel?

A 44mag I would trust more than 100-150yds. But if you had a high powered rifle -270, 30-06, 300Mag they're good well beyond 250yds. Dangerous MUCH further.

Too bad they don't allow some of the older cals like the 38-55. This is not a long range Cal, but would be a great short range Deer gun. Heavy bullets drop fast, the rules should be tied to some forumla that takes that into consideration.

I'm thinking/worried about the "Dangerous MUCH further" part.

The guys that use the "Fire and Forget about it" bullets are the ones that scare me. [V]

The really hilarious thing about Indiana law is that 35 Remington and 45/70 are allowed in a handgun.

Hm, maybe not "hilarious" per se but odd anyway.

This will give you a bit of an idea. The columns are in the order listed in the titles under the table name. The last number after each caliber is the maximum range in miles.

Table II - Range of various cartridges

    CALIBER AND BULLET

    BULLET WEIGHT (GRS.)
    MUZZLE VELOCITY (F.P.S)
    BALLISTIC COEFF.
    MAX. RANGE (YARDS)
    MAX. RANGE (MILES)

    .22 LR (SV) 40 1145 .128 1500 .85
    .22 LR (HV) 40 1335 .128 1565 .89
    .380 ACP 95 970 .08 1089 .62
    .45 ACP PISTOL 234 820 .16 1640 .93
    .30 CARBINE 111 1970 .179 2200 1.25
    .30 BALL M2 152 2800 .40 3500 1.99
    .30 BT M1 172 2600 .56 5500 3.12
    .30-40 KRAG 220 2000 .34 4050 2.30

    dlrjj, Thanks

I think I'll be wearing my vest and Kevlar helmet come next deer season. It's not the locales that scare me it's the guys from Fort Wayne and Toledo that just drive till they find some place that looks good and they pull in and find a place to sit. Many times it's in someones stand that has permission to hunt there.

I worked at the Coast to Coast hardware store years ago. We sold guns, ammo, licenses and other hunting stuff. The night before season we would get the guy that would bring in his buddy to get a license, Oh and he needs a gun, ammo and orange hat too. [:0] Then we'd get the guys that would be beating down the door at 8 am needing resupplied with ammo. [:0] This scared me out of the woods till I can get my own land.

Well if it happens, i'm good to go. What shell you all suggest for deer? I have a Ruger (old model- no clip) .44 Carbine. I will probably use the open flip down sights on it, but not sure yet. Also i might be looking for a Marlin Lever gun chambered for .44. Would like to find one that needs some tlc, like the wood redone for example.
