FAL Finished... My Sat. Build Project PICS
This morning I had started working on an AK and got to the point of needing rivets to go any further and I was in the building mood so I remembered my Long Lost FAL Project. After searching around and gathering all the parts, This thing was literally in parts, I started by Clocking the Barrel on the lathe, headspacing ans assembling the upper receiver.
I had an Old cut lower receiver so all the parts had to be stripped from that and reinstalled on the New lower receiver. Added new furniture and Bipod. Toped it off with a new scope integrated dust cover.
I am 95% done and maybe 99% if I decide to leave the finish alone.
To the range to complete the last 1% of test fire and sight in[:D][8D]

Love the FALs (esp. with that G1 style flashhider) but I hate the SAW furniture. Get thee to ironwood designs and get some pretty wood! 0 -
Very Nice! Did you engrave your initials on the frame or the barrel? [:D] 0 -
Looks good. Let us know how it shoots. 0 -

It had a wood stock on the kit but I had to use the required US made parts and the furniture was at a bargain price I couldn't pass up.
Total cost for the whole build is About 375.00
I picked up an Imbel gear logo receiver at 200.00 and that was my biggest expense.0 -

I just got back from the range and was completely impressed with the performance of this rifle.
After about 20 rounds to get it sighted in and the gas system adjusted to keep from getting the FTEs I was getting at first I shot a 3 round group which is group #1 in the picture and a four round group,#2, at 100 yards. Group #2 was after an Adjustment that I made a mistake on going the wrong way.
Unbelievably accurate and I can't wait to go back to settle down and try my hardest as there were high power rifle competitors there and I got tired of waiting for them to change targets.
All shots were fired off a bench useing the bipod that is attached.
I also removed the flash hider while shooting.
This rifle made me feel like I know how to shoot again after the last few trips with an AK and a couple SKSs and scattered groups.
The ammo in the pic was what I used and it is just some type of surplus steel case stuff I acquired somehwere along the line.
