Question on refinishing a rifle stock
Not mine, I don't own any gun's.[:p][:0][:D]
After sanding off the old finish the wood is very light and is softer than our American Walnut, My Question is how do I get the thing darken so I can finish it with Oil?

Use a stain called Special walnut, apply 2 coats & let dry completely then apply whatever you wish over the top

Boiled linseed oil darkens the wood naturally and keeps on darkening. I think its the best and easiest finish, It just takes time. Once a day for a week. Once a week for a month. and once a month for a year. You become one with the gun, and can use it between coats. [^] 0 -

Its so easy too. Just sand and apply the oil by hand. You'll smell like a deep fryer, but at least the stock will look nice.0 -
If it's a yellow colored wood, you won't be happy with the Linseed oil.
If it's yellow it's probably birch. If it is, you'll have a heck of a time getting it to take an even stain. If you think it is birch let me know and I'll give you some tips to get a nice finish.
