question on nickel plating
Can a gun that has been nickel plated be stripped down and reblued or is it just lost forever? [xx(]

There is a shop in Ft. Wayne that does a nice job of removal and parkerizing for about $100 for a 1911. 0 -
The gun can be put in an electrolytic stripping tank where most of the plating is removed, and the rest buffed smooth. (It will lose some of the sharp lines due to the buffing required). 0 -

I can get you the name and number for the shop in Ft. Wayne if you wish. I"m going to take a Remington Rand 1911 there to be redone for the same reason. It was likely done by someone back in the 50's when that was a very popular thing to do to "dress up" war surplus 45's.0 -

We have two products that strip nickel from steel. One has cyanide one doesn't. The cyanide strip is faster but not suitable for non ferrous metals like copper ,brass ,and aluminum. It does however do an excellent job on steel and stainless steel. Aluminum can safely be stripped in a 50% nitric acid solution. Pot metals which are zinc alloys and materials such as 714 inconel are very difficult to strip.
I work for a aerospace company. I would just call some of the suggested shops from fellow GB'ers.0
