Gun question

Wild Okie
More specific and Egyptian Hakkim (sp?) . Friend of mine was out yesterday shooting and every 2nd or 3rd shot didn't discharge. Upon inspection we notice the casings that had fired had a deeper dent in the primer than the ones that did not fire. 2 questions, do you think this is a firing pin/spring problem? And if so, anyone know where to get parts at a reasonable price?

    May want to check around, because I do not think that a full choke is good for slugs.

    The present barrel is probably not the best choice for slugs. My local gun shop sometimes gets in a spare barrel that will fit that model, and often offers them at pretty cheap prices. So you might check around where you live.

    If the long barrel has no sentimental value, you might think about shortening it to 28" or so. It would then be a cylinder bore (supposed to be best for shooting slugs) and also handier to carry through the woods. But then to make it an effective deer barrel, it would need sights fitted.

    Accuracy is what I meant to say, not that a slug will not go through the barrel. My fault should have be more descriptive. If you are looking for a good slug gun that is cheap take a look at H&R Ultra Slugger BPS has them for $220. Dollar for dollar you can not buy a more accurate slug gun. And you get to have another gun.[:D]

    I've seen a number of older barrels with a full choke split when firing slugs. Especially the older Savages and Stevens. They were not that fussy about the quality of the steel in the barrels.

    If it has no sentimental value, sell it and use that $ and the $ you would've spent on a barrel on either a new single shot (if thats what you are happy with) or a good deal on a pump or semiauto.

    If it has sentimental value, leave it alone and get a new single shot utility shotgun

    shotungs under $100 ending in 24hrs or less with no reserve

    Thanks for all your advice guys. I think I'll just look for a slug gun. I really don't deer hunt much with a gun. Although the mood does strike me now and then. I prefer to take them with a bow. Where I hunt is mostly shots less than fifty yards and not more than one hundred.
