Opinions wanted-new purchase
Ok, Ive got a few bucks saved up, and am ready to spend it. Have been looking at the following:
M1 Garand (vintage, not new or refurb, great shape)
Wildey in .475 Wildey, engraved
WWI Colt 1911 in beautiful shape
Smith/Wesson 1911 (Commander size model)
Dakota Predator
If I get the Dakota, thats it, nothing more. The others would leave a bit left over to look at a 2nd goodie perhaps.
Whatcha think?

Everybody should have a Garand and a 1911 0 -
Pick the one you are least likely to be able to find at the same quality for the same price in the future. 0 -
Pick the one you want and make sure it fits you!! 0 -
Darn, I just got rid of a S&W 1911.
Nice one too.
Kept the laser grips though. [;)]
You back in town?0 -
The first three are the best bets. Two and three are about equal but the Colt would have more demand.
They aren't making WWI Colts anymore.
4 and 5 are new and easier to get.0 -
Garand 0 -

I don't know what a Wildey is, but among the others I would choose the Colt. 0 -

Dakota Predators are hard to beat, if you could still find one at the old price of around $2495.
Use-wise get a Springfield or Colt 1911 $700-1100
Investment/Perfection-Wise Ed Brown 1911 $1900--3200
Thumbs down on a S&W 1911..no real use
My 2 cents0 -
woohoo look at the post count!quote:Originally posted by fishermanben

I was just at the CMP store in Anniston, Alabama and they have 2 matching unissued Garands. They only want $25,000 for the pair.
BTW, I would get the Garand.0 -
I like the 1911. 0 -
Ok, thanks for the input. Its both the Garand and the Colt. I like the SW 1911, would probably make a great shooter, but something about an old Colt just seems right...I already have several Colts, 2 Garands, and one Dakota but no Wildeys. Kinda afraid to shoot the Dakota, dont wanna scuff it up. Though mebbe if I had a 2nd, could keep one shoot the other. But I think you all are right, the Colt and Garand are the ones to get. They just kinda go together. 0 -
Considering you already have a couple Colts and Garands, check these out before you make a final decision:
