Any steel guitar players here?
I know there's a bunch of axemen here, but anyone play steel?
Reason I ask is that I scored a beautiful Chandler lap steel a while back at a pawn shop. They didn't know what it was and I got it for a song. I've wanted to learn for years, as I love blues, country swing and Hawaiian music (I especially love the traditional Hawaiian concept of fishing music).
I'm looking for a source for lessons, videos, books, online stuff, etc. and some help getting it tuned properly. I have a standard electronic tuner, but I'm trying to get an open-E, and I am unfamiliar with chromatic tuners and cannot read music or play the piano anymore.
I've been fooling around a bit with standard tuning and a slide guitar book, and can lay down some pretty cool (I think) licks, especially with my Vox amp on "tube overdrive", but I want to get better. I miss playing guitar and due to an old injury, my left hand is almost useless for forming chords on a fretboard.

Had a friend who could play almost any instrument. His girlfriend bought him a nice pedal steel. He could not master it and sold it. Watch a country band. Which musician is the only one looking at his hands? Must be one of the hardest instruments to master. Steel guitar players and fiddle players get a premium in the studios. Around here, decent fiddle players are a dime a dozen, but I know of only one steel guitarist. 0 -
