How often do you change your oil?

I never change my oil, the dealer does. Also I am tied to always using synthetic oil as the MDS system will not function with any other type of oil (MDS changes from 8 cylinders to 4 for fuel economy).

I have it changed every 3-4k miles.

WalMart oil meets the API service grade listed on the bottle it is every bit as good as the name brand listing the same API service rating. Buying a name brand oil is mostly advertising money in the cost of the product. Synthetics are a better product than standard oils. Installing a bypass filter system to get dirt below 20 microns is the best way to stop wear in its tracks. Dirt causes wear, acting just like sand paper. Remove the dirt and there is no wear. Most engine wear happens from dirt particles in the 5 to 20 micron range. Standard filters are not efficient at filtering particles of that size. www.fs2500.com is the product I use and is worth every dime.

I change oil every 50-80,000 miles. I use full synthetics, changing the filters every 10,000 miles. A sample is sent out for analysis to determine if the oil needs changed. It has never come back showing the need to change it.

Every 3000 miles I change oil and filter. Have put over 300,000 miles on 3 different vehicles and well over 100.000 without a bit of engine trouble. I will only use Havoline oil and Fram filters.

Every 3000 miles...I'm old school I guess. Every car I have owned in the past 25 years has run at least 120,000 and two in excess of
170,000 miles before I sold or traded them off.

TrueFilter makes a filter that never needs to be replaced. You just take it out, tear it apart, clean it, put it back in. I'd get one, but they're about 150 bucks.

however often it says in the owner's manual.
The cost of a few extra oil changes is much less than the cost of something bad happening in the engine

Every 2500, usually 3 times/year. That way it's easy to remember when I need to change it. 30,000-32,500 ect. I also change it myself that way I know it's done right as well as lubing the front end too.

It was always a cheap thing to do so I did it every 3k but the oil still look like it has much more life but I really dont see how it can hurt.

    I never change it completely.

At about 5000 miles it'll be a quart low.

At that time,I replace the filter and top it off with a couple of quarts of Mobil 1.

Been doin' it for the last 140,000 miles and have had no problems.

In my ex-cop car with cop motor with miles 171,000 (or so). I do the change with 5000 miles with Castrol 5W 30 with K&N filter (I would use Fram that comes in a "pop top can" but I can't find it for couple of years). Still smooth with a slight leak but I don't add and I recon it looks about 5 quarts.

My 3 cylinder Geo is over 200,000 on Wal-Mart oil. I change it every 5000.

My wifes car is at 197,000 and also gets changed every 5000 with Wal-Mart oil.

I use Mobil 1 in my Nissan pick up and change it every 5000 miles. It could probably go further, but I have put 350,000 miles on it and have had no problems.I get paid mileage to drive so the Nissan has probably paid for its self several times.

Thanks, Bobski. You are sure showing off your book smarts, with that fancy search gizmo.

But us thinking men want current information, not last month's opinions. [;)]

Every 7500 on the wife's 1993 240, and 5000 for my 850 Turbo. I read that the turbo wants it more often.

Both cars operate perfectly, except for my odometer, but a dummy light comes on at 5K intervals.

My car has no recommended transmission oil replacement; "Don't touch it", is what the books, advice, the dealer, and the manual all say. It looks and smells fresh, and that is the way it is judged.

Her 240 says every 20K on the trans, and that is what it will get, since I might have ruined her last car by not servicing the transmission.

I also have the timing belt replacements written down.

I'm hoping to get four years out of my '94 850 Turbo, and seven years out of her '93 240.

Both cars get mostly highway miles, like close to 98% or better on mine, and 95% or better on hers.

On my car and truck, oil and filter every 3000 with Napa oil and Napa gold filter. On my motorcycle, oil every 1500, oil and filter every 3000 with Napa oil and either Emco or Suzuki filter. Three wheeler, I fill it whenever it gets low.

I use Mobil 1 in all-- {jeep, aurora, 5000 miles,} carberated motor (chevy truck) spring and fall, running with choke on dilutes the oil with gas,and it sits most of the time in garage.
Never had major engine problems with Mobil 1 for over 25 yrs.

Every 5K because it's easy to remember and well within the manufacturers specs. I use Walmart, pennsoil and filter for $16...a good deal.
