...Well finally found a co that would hard chrome (matt) some small parts for me. GREAT customer service...dealt with the owner Chris Peters. A fantastic guy, he is good people. GREAT quality work and very quick turn around.
...I like it, I think it looks "clean" w/the two tone look of the small contrasting parts ; plug, bushing, mag catch, slide stop, thumb safety... 8)
...OPINIONS? Looks good, too much?...or...?
Before I found Metaloy in Arkansas http://www.originalmetaloy.com/pricing.html I had em'd half a dozen Co's and NONE bothered to even tell me to kiss their azz, no reply whatsoever. Metalloy does a lot of pistol smith work too, that is not listed on their website, but is in their brochure. Tacti-Coat finishes (OD Green, Desert tan etc.), Blueing.
You can see the HC parts, and Chip McCormick trigger, (everyone that carries Chip M triggers, including Chip M. are out of triggers...until late summer)...so, I found a black Chip M. trigger on flea bay, and Metaloy bead blasted it for me gratus.
I installed an Ed Brown 19# reduced power mainspring, Chip M. trigger that I trued and polished the bow on, Chip M. sear spring...even being a series 80, all that dropped the trigger pull by almost a full pound...and is much smoother.
...Think Im going to take a satan nickle series 70 Combat Commander I have and do the same with the small parts, but in contrasting black park, I have most the black parts already. Think I'll break down and put an extended blue Wilson drop in ext beaver tail on it too. Thinking about putting the Ed Brown "snakeskin" mainspring housing in blue on it, this is their's in satin.
Here's she is before I had the parts plated and put 'em on, and installed the Chip M trigger.

Loko Thanks! Texas Ranger Star...and the grips are a polymer of some kind...similar to bone. My ivory grips have the carmel "grain" and have the sivler Colt medallion inlaid.

loco...I have some ivories w/delta medallion being made up for my DE...but, I have probably 6 sets of DE grips...I am thinking about canceling that order, and getting something else, just don't know yet.
... Here's a set of DE grips made by Radical Concepts (Colt contractor who did the wrap-a-round DE grips, and others) I got them for the DE medallions and because I got a dozen in 4 different colors, cheap...got the grips for the medallions...they are next to impossible to get now...this pic is the ONLY time them suckers will ever be on my DE...If you like these grips...make you a deal on 'em...[^][:D] As you may guess, uh, the color did not go over too good...wonder why? [:D] [:0]
I'm thinking about some of the Kimber Desert Warrior (dimpled) cream colored grips for the nickle commander, something "light" in color I think looks best on SS or nickle guns.
...I found these...and actually like 'em, surprised myself! I saw these on a Combat Commander like mine...and they actually looked awfully good! Saw them as in the pic, NOT on a gun....and they don't look to swift, kinda poopty looking really...but on a gun...they look really good![^]0 -

Have to order some of the parts....figure out which ones exactly I want first, so will be awhile...I'd like to find a Chip M trigger like I put on my DE and the 91 above but in black since my Commander is nickle...but unless someone throws a new one up for sale somewhere...I'd have to wait untill the end of summer for one....ain't gonna do that! Loco here is just one place I know that has them, probably more if you search around...if your really interested, pay close attention 'cause Ive seen some real similar but the "hour-glass" on the widow was NOT colored, did not look good at all; the whole design was just black.

...Hey loko, look on flea bay for the seller steelheadscott he usually has some of the medallions. the real ones...not the blue/red ones that have started to show up. Ive never known the DE medallions to have been produced in THAT color combo!
Scott is good people and his price is usually better than anyone elses (if he has some) and his shipping is like the actual cost, $1 if I remember right. If he doesn't have any listed at the moment, em him and see if he is going to have some more. Mention Richard the crazy Texas bass fisherman in your em...and he'll shooot you the straight skinny on the medallions...[:D]
Like I said, I thought the widow grips looked poopty, then I saw 'em on a a guys Commander at the range and I'll be damned, they really looked good!
...Being light colored with only the design colored, they may look good on a blue, or black parked gun too. Considering I'm a nappy headed Ho when it comes to grips...I'll get the Kimber Desert Warrior grips, and these black widow too...[8D]

...I just stripped the blue off a Colt 1911 short steel trigger Nunn gave me last time I saw him...going to re-blue it and use the drill press to drill 3-4 holes in it...and just make my own custom looking trigger for my nickle commander....save the bucks of buying a trigger! IF, it turns out ok.([:0][:D])
... I'll still need a mag catch and bushing though...but every penny saved helps. I have a nice match trigger group scoped out if it doesn't go too high that would give me the sear, reduced power mainspring, sear spring, etc...who-hoo! I just love working on my Colts...adding that little "something" that makes 'em "mine"...[^]0 -

Loco Damn! $50 bucks plus shipping? Man Robert, take your time and look around, especially on flea bay...you can do better, I garauntee! Those you are showing are made by Radical concepts, the designer/contractor for Colt when they were producing them...but, notice the "diamonds"? Those grips are the "2nd generation DE grips. You can see the pebble in these (see pic)...along with some of the funky color grips I bought too [:D]
...The 1987-8 (at least) were a pebble finish.
...It may not matter to you, but mine is a first year production (87) and came w/the correct pebble grips...then I found another "correct" set on flea blay..for like $15 shipped. Be patient, and look and you can get the correct pebble ones WAY cheaper than the diamond ones (if it matters)...and thats BS that the diamond ones "feel better" than the pebble, the guy is full of it. Ive shot with both and the pebble is way easier on your hand, and feel great, no comparrisson...[;)]0 -

...You can call them with any Colt and they will tell you. I called Fri. to see when a Colt Woodsman Match Target was made...turns out it was made in 1951. I have it, going to sell it for a friend of mine...sweet .22 target pistol. You should consider having the ID of your barrel plated with the HCR 100 chrome bath or Metalloy as it is called .Years ago when I did this for a living. We did test on the longevity of barrels plated with Metalloy and the results were outstanding. The plating is only .0002 thick. It is a bright thin dense chrome that has a greater lubricity than conventional chrome. I've always been amazed that the aero space industry will not approve this process for their thin dense plating needs.

...Hey Okie...I had that idea for the bore. That HC Metaloy is THIN, but oh so wear/scratch resistant. Before I had it done I ask about the thickness, was thinking about plating some internal parts...and was told that it would not effect even the closest tolerance.
...I KNOW that it's awful damn scratch resistant, first hand knowledge [:0][:D] When I dropped the mag catch back in and was turning the screw to lock it into the inside frame groove....my screwdriver slipped [:0][:0], and I mean I had some pressure on it as it slid across the mag catch, not even a mark! THAT, pleased and surprised me...it's great stuff!![;)]

You will not be sorry and your internal parts of the gun will work better and last longer.What makes this chrome bath better than conventual's chrome baths. As a conventual deposit it is in the shape of platelets The Metaloy bath as it deposits it lays down in the shape more like a BB . That is what give it it's great lubricity and why it is so scratch resistant .
