.17 HMR
Does anybody make a handgun in this round?I love my savage 93 and would like a pistol in this round.

I just read a good sized artical on new Ruger models in ST. Has anyone purchased or even shot one of these 17 cals?

Anyone have a revolver in .17 HMR? Have a rifle and they are pretty fun to shoot. Seen that Ruger and Taurus both make revolvers chambered in this cartridge and they look like they could be a lot of fun for plinking and squirrel hunting.

I never saw the point of the .17 HMR but to anybody who says they have the rifle and think the revolver might be fun I say GO FOR IT!0 -
them 17 rifles are meen on varmin upto 180 yds...but get a wind....oooouch!! [:D]

I've got a Taurus Ultralight 8-shot in 17HMR that hides right behind my hip bone almost everywhere I go. It's accurate, devastating at close range, weighs a piddling 18oz., and disappears when enveloped by my belt.
It's a very fun gun with a serious side that hits harder than any 22WMRF, and the teeny bullets have little plastic tips that explode about 6" into a soft-skinned target.
I removed the rear sight, bobbed the hammer, and added a set of smooth wood grips to make the ultimate high speed, low drag pocket pistol.0 -

The wood grips are a must on a revolver for me as well[:D]. I was looking at the model with the 6.5 in barrel, but I didn't even see the shorter model until you mentioned it. How much did you pay for yours out the door? Ths website says $400 and something for an MRSP so I would think $300 and change brand new?

I like the rifle for small varmits out to 150 yrds or so as mond said, but its not cheap to shoot. Ammo for the .17 HMR is expensive.

Oh don't worry. At least in my case, my Cabela's points are used for that[:D]. You are right that it is a little spendy, but it's performance on smaller game is superior to a .22 from what I have seen of it. I guess it really depends on your intended purpose for the round. If your going to be doing mostly hunting and only a little bit of target shooting with it, $10 for 50 shells is not a bad price. Where as if it were the other way around, your probably best off with a .22 I guess.
