Jim - yeah I caught it - are you talking about the The Ocean Beach Pier Cafe, on
Niagara Ave (at Bacon St).
You only filled TWO beer cards? What did you do with the REST of your time? LOL

[8D]Well Zip, remember those cards were World beer and some were 750 Milliliter bottles and I usually only had infrequent weekends because of Naval base duties (Ballast Pt.)--
--Captains and XO's don't like their REACTOR systems mixed with BEER BREATH in discusions of Subalt/Navalts status in the Ward room--
--Anyway, yea I think thats the one on the South side of Niagra/upstairs-I even spent two weeks there one night [:I][:I]
--Always went to the sand and watched the BUDWEISER sponsered GIRLS vollyball games -[:I]

Well, Jim, I don't remember the beer card details BUT I DO
remember ONE particular drunken sailor in a hula skirt
being carried over his buddies heads - up to the 32nd Street
Pier! Was THAT you, Jim!???
... I always wondered what happened to that swabbie!

[8D]--Hey, I stand on the 5th !!
---JIMBO0 -
Yeah ... and as I recall ... that 5th ... and all of his brothers were 'dead soldiers!'
... and YOU weren't standin!!!
[:D]0 -
[8D]--Naw, I was always with officers or women and not necessarily in that order !!
--I usually stayed either on board or in the Off Qtrs at Ballast Pt.-
--Spent a lot of time either under water or flying between San Diego/Mare Island and Bangor-Wa--
--I don't fly ANYMORE !!
----JIMBO0 -
AH! YOU are one of those guys we almost slammed into off Pt. Loma
one night ... at 3AM!
We were FLYING across a mirror-smooth sea, one night about 20 years
ago, and almost hit one of 'your sails' while it was lying off the point
waiting for it's tow in ... with NO lights!
... almost turned two of us into big 'tomato splats!'
Only at the very last second - when we noticed that all the stars in front of us
disappeared - did we veer along the sail - sitting on the tops of our seats -
almost took my nose off!
[:0]0 -
[8D]--Now Zip, what makes you think it was US ???
--We had requirements for our rotating beacon and that was when fully surfaced, you don't think it could have been the "RED OCTOBER" do ya ???
----JIMBO0 -
Dunno - I saw that sailor in a yellow hula skirt again up on top of the sail
looking through his Big Eyes! Not you?
[:D]
We were later told by a friend of mine that it was quite common -
because of Rusky spy satellites that MIGHT have had night
capabilities.
... any truth to that scuttlebutt?
Gotta go - talkatcha later!0 -
[8D]-Well, I can't attest to the "hula skirt" routine, but 20 yrs ago and earlier we could get away with A LOT after Horizon sundown, their sats weren't much without LIGHT. Either sunlight or artificial light-
--there were a No. of subs that were drydocked and dedocked after nightfall (ALL our BASES) because of "need to know" position status, they were all shrouded with green canvas to shield hull type-
--They, then and now, know all our subs by telltale profile, vertical and horizontal, not much to worry about Sturgeon class any more-just Loa Angeles/Trident/SeaWolf class and "others"--
