.338 Winchester
Alright, I have talked myself out of the .375 I was originally looking at getting and opted to go with a .338 Winchester instead. Would just be more practical for me.[:D] I have it narrowed down to 3(all stainless, synthetic), not in any certain order

Just looking to see which you guys would choose. Normally Remington would be towards the top of my list, but I don't like the 26" bbl. Thanks,

The Tikka will kick the dog snot out of you! It is too light for power ratio, like puting a blown 427 in a Pinto, lots of power but hard to control. I have seen problems lately with Ruger chambers and most require polishing of them. They are good, rugged guns and other than that I know of no other problems. The Savage is probably the best gun for your money and have been underated for years. Don't have the clout of bigger name guns (and less resale value) but outshoot them without going to guns that are way up there in price.

+1. I shot my friend's Tikka and it performed well ... but still pick Savage over the Tikka Lite (SAKO is a different story [^]). If I have to choose, it will be in this order ...

If you are considering a muzzle brake remember the noise level. It will increase 3 fold and if you shoot it to sight in with it on, then remove it to hunt with it will shoot to a different point of aim. I don't think they are worth the expense or trouble.

on my .300WM for less than $140 five years ago. I am not recoil sensitive but it shoots like a .243 now, which is nice at the range. It is no doubt very loud and ear protection is a must. I leave mine on all the time. This type is nice because it does not kick up dirt when you are on prone position out hunting. Having said that, it's money well invested.0 -

Just a thought...how about a .338 BAR, if a semi is legal to hunt with where you live? I have one and it takes a lot of the kick out of the 338. And it is accurate. 0 -

My personal choice would be to find a used Winchester 338, but it sounds like you're looking for new. I have no experience with the new products on your list, but I do hear favorable comments regarding Savage rifles. 0 -
As some of you know I am a huge Tikka fan, however in your choice of caliber, I will have to deviate from my usual mantra.
As stated, the Tikka will kick the dog-snot out of you. I do not recommend a muzzle break, because as stated, you will need to wear hearing protection at all times, including hunting, which means purchasing electronic plugs/muffs.
So, I will be the first to recommend the Ruger. I used to own a 77 in .300 WM and it was more accurate than I was. Plus I like the controlled-round feed of the Ruger actions. They come with rings that are fairly good quality and the resale value is better than the Savage. Plus, I like the wood that they use for their stocks better than the wood on the Savages. (I know you said SS/Synthetic).
One more thing about the three that you have mentioned, only the Tikka comes with a matte stainless finish, the other two are pretty bright. My buddy has a Savage 12VSS and I can always find him in the field from the glint off of his barrel.0 -
I own one in the .338 in the Ruger but not the SS. I like the gun, it shoots very good and likes the 225 grain bullets better, 250 hammer you on the bench. If I had may choice, go for the synthetic stock, durable and less chance of any movement in lousy weather. One more point, you can find ammo at places where you may not for the weird or new calibers.

I have always liked Ruger firearms, but didn't like their stainless rifles because of what you mentioned. However, their new Hawkeye 77 rifle has a matte stainless finish, which I also prefer a lot more.
