Anyone with knowledge on tv's?--Update
Our tv crapped out on us a little while ago and we need to get a new one. The most I want to spend it $300(although I would like it to be less) and we are looking for something at least 20". I had the same tv for the past 10 years or so, so I am a little behind in that department. Any suggestions? Uses will be mainly watching movies, some tv, and some video games. I am leaning towards the regular tube tv's that have flat screens right now.

Walmart, I got a 27"
flat screen tv 2 years ago
there for appox $250 and
it still only loses color
on channel 9 once or
twice a month.
Good thing channel 9 news

Walmart is going to be your best bet if you are set on that price range, but even there you might be hard pressed to meet $300 (I'm not real sure on this as I have not price regular tube type TV's in a long time).
Remember that you will want a digital tunner as in another 1 1/2 years (febuary 2009) all signals will be broadcast in digital and the anolog set will require a converter box to recieve the digital signal.
My newest TV (philips 42" widescreen LCD with 1080 resolution and all the bells and whistles) ran me just under $2000. But that was thier latest and Greatest set that had just came out.
I would recomend atleast moveing up to the $500 range and makeing sure your new set is digital ready! And that is comming from someone who likes to buy the cheeper things!0 -
In Sept 08 will be the end of analog, all signals will be digital. May want throw some more money in that pot and get a digital now. But I do believe there will be digital to analog boxes for sale to convert the signal.
I just went through the same thing. But the TV I had was a 27" console, that my mother bought in "76" and gave it to me when I bought my house 12 years ago.0 -

How about Sanyo. Decent tv's or no? I see that they have a few on sale at the local Wally-Mart that meet all of my criteria and they have digital tuners. They also have a 32" RCA on sale for $275, but it is a regular screen, not a flat.

I researched before I bought mine and LCD is the way to go.
You get a briter clearer picture quality than Plasma. Yes you will spend a bit more money but in the longrun it is well worth it!
The one I bought is even software upgradeable by useing a USB flash drive.0 -
Best friend John owns an electronics warranty repair center. He says that the average life of the light engine in a plasma is two years or less. If you get one, be SURE to get the longest extended warranty available.
In that realm, GRD is absolutely right - LCD is the only way to go.
Among our boat load of TVs, the Sanyo has been a great value for the 9 years we've had it. We got it in the "clearance" section at Target. A 27" standard CRT box.

Boy did I ever luck out!! Went to Wal-Mart today and got there around ten to eight. Found out that they were having a massive clearance(off of the already saled prices) on select models starting at 8am. One of the tv's I was considering(the Tubed RCA 32" SD) was going to be on sale. I stood in front of it to make sure that I would get a card to purchase one seeing that they had very limited quantities and while I was waiting I was drooling over the tv next to it. A 32" Polaroid Flat screen HDTV with LCD. Originally $1000 with a sale price of $698. When the associates finally brought out the disount prices and began sticking them on, I saw that the RCA was down to $200!! Right before I grabbed a slip I asked how much the Polaroid was going to be, just out of curiosity. "$400 she said." My response was "may I have one of them instead."[:D]. Although our budget for the tv was $300, we had a budget of $400 for a tv and stand. The stand can wait.

I have a Polaroid 32 inch LCD, bought at Wal-Mart a few months back, and quite possibly the same model you have. Love it! Great pic through our HD service on Direct TV. I paid a little over $700 for ours, but was in wally world a couple of days later and it was on clearance sale for $398. Explained to the sales lady what I had bought mine for, FROM THE SAME DANG STORE, 2 days prior, and she told me to bring the receipt in and they would refund the difference in price. I did, and they did! 0 -
I am still old school with flat CRT's. I have a 46" that is a lead sled to pick up, but it is true HD and love the picture. 0 -

Very cool, glad to hear that you got a good price too. No problems with it so far? Now I just have to get HD service setup for it.
