As much as I think smoking is a disgusting habit and that people should stop smoking, I will forever fight for your right to smoke.
I hate sin taxes as a rule. I see nothing different between a huge cigarette tax and a huge ammo tax.0 -
They just raised the cigarrete tax here in Indiana to pay for poor kids that don't have insurance. I think this wrong. What happens when people quit smoking, buy their smokes in states with lower tax rates, ect. Where will they get the money to continue to fund their projects? They will find something else to tax. What's next. Fast food? soft drinks? Automobiles? We are slowly being taxed into the poor house. 0 -
Cigarettes are....The abortion that your mother never had!!!! 0 -

For a greedy and controlling government..?0 -
I don't smoke but don't agree with this. If this is right I guess maybe we should increase the tax on:
Booze, to help finance rehabs
cars, to help finance people injured in auto accidents
food, to help finance the medical needs of the obese.0 -

This is all a big scam folks! They think if they tie the tax increases to a "Save The Children" agenda that everyone will vote in favor.
Remember this is the same game that was used under the Clinton administration to demonize guns and ammo. The CDC was preaching this and HUD did too to find a way to eliminate gun ownership. Foreign Governments used it to their advantage in Canada and England to save all the kids from being shot and practically eliminated the private ownership of firearms.
All taxes should be up front and either a flat tax or an add on sales tax so you can really see how much the Government is taxing you. Government will never do this because you all would revolt if you had any idea of the real tax rate that you pay in this country.0 -
Indiana also just implemented a new tax added to the fees paid to register your motorcycle. THAT money goes to fund research for spinal cord injuries. Something has to change. It is getting real bad. Our property taxes are going up an average of 24% but in reality they are doubling or even tripling. 0 -
I don't support taxes on cigarettes and taxes on gambling.
Who smokes cigarettes?
I would guess the largest group of smokers are also lower income Americans.
Who gambles?
I would guess the largest group of gamblers is retired people on fixed incomes.
Why are we taxing to of the poorest groups of Americans?
Have they quit smoking because of the tax? No.
Have they quit gambling because of the tax? No.
Thanks Hillary...you freaking socialist!0 -

I'm not too fond of smokers in venues I like to attend but I can't approve of taxes that affect almost solely the poorest segments of the population.
Why don't we have a tax on snobby elitist rich-b**** behavior?0 -
Sidenote: I'm a smoker. Could someone give me a steer to a quality cig. making machine, and bulk 'bacca in cans? Anybody got a lead?
I was informed that using your own 'bacca/paper averages out to $0.75 a pack.
Thanks, Joe0 -
I am a smoker and I appreciate the support of you non smokers. These taxes are unfair. The Govenor of Iowa fought for and won a $1 per pack increase in cigarette tax. Now there is a mad rush to the Missouri border for cheaper smokes and booze. The business owners across the border love our Govenor. He's a liberal idiot, just like them all. Tax and spend. 0 -

Quite awhile ago I wrote about why sin taxes were wrong on my blog. They don't do what they set out to do and they wind up being harmful for society in the end. You can read it if you want here: http://denver.yourhub.com/HighlandsRanch/Blogs/News-Politics/Commentary/Blog~181489.aspx
I have no love for smoking. I'm allergic as hell to the smoke, and I dislike how I smell after merely walking through a cloud of it. But, so long as it is a legal activity, I will forever fight against these taxes and vote against them (In Colorado the voters have to approve new taxes).0 -
[8D]-I don't smoke either, but it seems that--
