Fixing Your Own Car
so the fuel pump went out on my truck. 103,000 miles. the ford dealer wanted $1,100 to fix it. i have decent mechanic skills but i didnt have that kind of money. I bought a new pump for $120 and a chiltons book for $19 and spent two days working on fixing it. Finally judgment day arrived, i put the key in, turned the ignition and....VROOM !! it started up and has been running fine for two weeks. for some reason i have never been more proud of myself, lol. there is just something about being self sufficient and sticking it to the man at the same time, haha. oh, and saving lots of money.

Anything I can fix myself, I do. About 80% of most auto mechanics bills are for labor.
Glad you could get the job done yourself.0 -
Way TO go.. Great feeling when you can do something like that your self.. You probably had to drop the gas tank right.. That's a real pain.
You will have to treat your self to a new gun with the money you saved .... [8D]

yeah you have to lower the tank, not completly though. the thing i was most worried about was having to cut wires and re-wire stuff. i know nothing about wiring but thankfully i didnt have to cut a single wire. it was just one plug in wire that was simple. tommorow i do the front brakes. we'll see if i can get this ford to 200,000 miles, lol. 0 -

welcome to the part of being an american with a can do spirit. 0 -
It seems like the manufacturers are intentionally making motor vehicles harder to fix, like locating parts that are easily replaced by the home mechanic in inaccesible places often requiring removal of 1/2 the stuff under the hood or even the engine itself or "special" tools. Even changing an oil filter has become a major task on some vehicles. 0 -
