Way to windy at the range
Went to the range today to "zero" in my mini 14. I think I just wasted about 60 rounds. It was so danged windy I'm pretty sure it blew some rounds off course and I know it was shaking the bench a lot. I think I finally got it close to right but I need to shoot more often. I remember when 10 out of 10 rounds in the 10 ring at 100 yards while standing was easy. Now I cant get 2 out 20 rounds in the 10 ring from a bench at 50 yards. All be it a shaky bench. I'm seriously considering not qualifying with the carbine this year. Heck, I usually leave it at home and just take the scatter gun anyway.
Anyway, how much of my bad shooting do y'all think was the wind blowing the round off course? Never mind that I suck.

Look up your wind drift. It is for sure real. Especially out beyong 400 or 500 yards 0 -
if the wind was fairly constant, you shouldve at least gotten a group, whether or not it was right on at the point of aim or not... 0 -
If your range is anything like the range I go to, the gusts of wind can screw up any type of group. 0 -
I wouldn't blame the wind and i wouldn't blame the shooter.
I would, However, Blame the Rifle. I have never seen a mini 14 that could be considered even remotely accurate.0 -

Well I would say that the rifle is probably more accurate than me at this point in time. I have barely put any range time in with my rifle in the past 3 years. I have put a lot of hours in with my service Glock and finally got it down pat. I always assumed shooting a rifle was like riding a bike. Obviously I was wrong.0 -

I got a pretty consistent group (about 3 inches). However it kept moving from right to left of point of aim. I kept making adjustments and reversing them over and over. It was really frustrating.0 -

The Mini-14s that I have had all shot good groups. Over the years, I've had 6 of them. As mentioned above, crosswinds have a noticable affect on the .223 beyond short ranges.

[8D]-Strangely enough, thats why I didn't go to my favorite range yesterday here in the Bay area--
--Too gusty and crosswindy-can't test various loads for accuracy under those conditions--
