Are you serious?
I work at a jewelry store in a town of about 6,000+. My grandparents opened it in 1953. I do the jewelry repair. A few minutes ago a man, probably about 19 or 20 years old came in. He had an inexpensive watch with him that wasn't working. I said to him, it probably just needs a battery, I can fix it while you wait. He paused and said, does that cost anything? I paused and said, yes it is 3$. He said, oh nevermind, I don't have any money. I said sir, If everything here was free, we would be homeless. I shouldn't have smarted off, but why would someone think a watch battery would be free[?]

Um, are you sure he wasn't asking if "fix it while you wait" was extra?0 -
Only If you bought the watch there and it has been less than a year. I think the store could forgo a battery, other than that heck no.
P.S. he may have been casing the place[}:)]0 -
because the watch was probably free as well, the police will be in later to see if you have seen the watch 0 -
he probably hasn't quite broke free from mommas purse and all the free stuff she buys him. maybe his mommy will be back in your store later with the $3 0 -

Perhaps he is handicapped? I mean mentally....Stop and think, anyone knows that batteries cost money, why would he not know it?
Or perhaps he wasnt from around there, maybe he is from another state or another town where ppl do change watch batteries for free, for just a bit of free advertising (word of mouth)...and yes there are a lot of places that do it...a lot of jewellers here give free battery changes..0 -

Hey, I think that was the guy. Zipperzap,[:D] you are sharp.0 -
Maybe he just know how much it would cost him. $3.00 doesn't seem much to most of us. But in my younger days $3.00 extra out of the buget might've been something to consider and plan for. 0 -
Well, he was actually loking for a watch with a good battery, and a T I N Y little set of jumper cables..... 0 -
Lord---$3.00
I pay the local guy $8.00 to install a new battery in my Fossil.0 -
Most jewelery stores back home replace watch batteries for free. (IDAHO) 0 -
My jewler in Chattanooga has been replacing watch batteries free for over 15years. It has brought him a lot more in sales than a mere $3 each could have ever added up to. 0 -
A lot of stores does that for free in Denmark too.. even installs a new little gasket and a lubejob if needed.
A happy customer comes back you know...0 -
I've had my watch about 12 years with 4 battery changes and never paid for a battery. Place I bought the watch at gives free battery replacement on every quality watch they sell. 0 -
