Well, I was in grade school during that election. Our class studied the issues and held our own campaign. I played the role of Wallace. Does that count? BTW...he/I lost in our classroom too!

Heck, in 1972, we did the same thing. I got to play the role of McGovern. All through elementary school I walked around mad because I couldn't be Richard Nixon!

I was only 13 at the time but I do remember agreeing with his statement "There's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrat and Republican Parties." His racist views (which to his credit he later recanted) meant there was no way I could ever have given him the slightest consideration for President. We have always been Republicans in my family and my mom and dad were both pulling hard for Ronald Reagan to win the Republican nomination in 1968, but when it went to Tricky Dick they voted for him.

I did. I was really surprised when I met him & saw how short he was.
I got a kick out of his remark after the Maryland primary in 72.
They at first said he won & then after they recapitulated the vote they said he lost.
He said he didn't know what recapitulated meant but to watch out if anyone said they were going to do it to you.

    That is pretty strange.

I figgered I was the only one on the forum that voted for him.

    Gotta think about this !!
