6.8 ??
I have seen this caliber referred to several times on GB. Is it a .260?? I know nothing about it. Would someone please 'splain it to me??

It's a .277 bullet in a shortened 30Rem case (30 REM is a rimless 30-30Win, for the old Rem model 8 autoloading rifle). Without having my measurments handy I can't give you the case length, but 41mm seems familier.
Think about the old 276 Pederson cartridge that the M1 Garand was origionaly designed for, and you'll be close.0 -
Thank you.
Is it commercially available??
What firearms are chambered for it? From the comments, it seems that some M-16 variants must be.
Ballistics, anyone??

DPMS, Barret, and Bushmaster have AR style rifles chambered in 6.8SPC. They come in long versions (20" barrels I assume) and shorter M4 size (16" barrels). Remington also offers their Model 700 LTR in 6.8SPC. I have a DPMS 16" in 6.8 and absolutely love it. I've used it succesfully as a 'brush gun' with an Eotech sight on top, and the round has a pretty fair thump to it. Remington has some hollowpoint bullets, and I believe Hornady has some loads with a V-Max bullet. As far as ballistics, Remington has charts on their site, and off the top of my head, it is not as fast as a .223 but hits much harder (atleast 500 lb/ft if my memory serves correct) and it is almost ballisticly similar to the 7.62x39 as far as velocity and energy, but outperforms it in terms or drop. Hope that helps. 0 -
Thanks much for the information.

I'm sure that the people who put up this auction will be glad that I'm promoting them for free. However if you want an upper and NOT the complete rifle, you can follow these GB links. (not familiar with the others, so I'd go with a high quality barrett upper)
