When my dad and I go out we always bring a back up rifle in deer season in case a scope craps out, and we usually have a back up shotgun in small game season. 0 -
For large game I bring two: hunting rifle, and sidearm. The latter is not needed if I am not in grizzly country, but that is extremely rare. If hunting small game or varmints in the lowlands, I will add a sidearm with birdshot, for rattlers. While they are rare, when you find 'em you find lots. Besides, any excuse to bring another gun! 0 -
only one for me. but then I've never hunted anywhere where i couldn't just run home and get another if i had too. 0 -

Depending on what I want to hunt.
I use all my rifles and shotguns for hunting - but choose from time to time, what I want to bring.0 -

this year i brought 9 to the deer camp .its about 90 miles from home so there is no running home for a different gun .
i have 3 for myself and like to switch off for different conditions .lend one to my f-in-law ,friend and younger brother as they are underguned .and bring a couple misc for color .
ended up using a new one for most of the season (ruger all weather in 280) and for walking and poor weather my marlin 39a in 3030 .
the 280 did really well, dont think ill be reaching for another gun for a long time .
we are in our third year of rifle hunting here in ny and the novelty is not worn off yet .many guys in the woods are still toteing there 12 ga guns . they still work well but i was due for a change .i would not have shot my buck with a shotgun as he fell at 220 yards .

On morning or evening watch, I have my main rifle, and a side arm, usually a 45 ACP or 10MM. If I am walking as in a deer drive, I carry my lighter walking rifle(Remington Model 7FS), and a 22LR pistol, as there are abundant grouse in the Adirondacks of NY where I hunt. Their season coincides with deer season, and they both go good with a bit of Cajun seasoning! 0 -
2 or 3. Rifle and sidearm - 410 shotgun in truck for grouse.

I love my #1 in .280, and my 25-06. Still a toss-up which one I grab first. The 25-06 is a Remington 30S Express, so it is just about as heavy as the #1....0 -

The first animal I killed with my Savage muzzleloader was a coyote. And wouldn't you know there was 2 of them and I.. just.. couldn't ...get reloaded.. fast enough,, for the second. Since then I've carried the .44 mag Ruger Blackhawk as well. Haven't 'needed' it, but it is good to know a second quick shot is there. Also fun to use the revolver on the closer shots. 0 -
