Mr. Why.; so far as to the best of my knowledge is that the only model that shoots the .416 barret is the bolt-action M99.

It does not have as much power as the .50BMG; but it stays supersonic past 2000 [yes I said 2000]yards, and is more accurate.

Also to my knowledge is there is only one type of load for it. The 400 grain solid brass botail spitzer. More are sure to come, but this is the only load as of now.

The ammo is quite rare; so you probably want to buy as much of it when you can, as availability may be few and far between.

I dont know about your country but 'techinacly' speaking the .416 barrett IS a whole new caliber and NOT simply a shortened case like the american .38 special and .357 magnum. ***see pics posted below***

I'm not familiar with import laws so i will not be able to tell you on that respect, but I do believe the price tag on this item is well worth it. The 'experts' or re-posting in another forum or over here may answer this question.

P.S. This reply is probably mid-afternoon for you over there, but early morning here.

Here in the US bore size dictates cal. size. Your own question answered itself. IF the brass size is still .50 necking it down to 416 might not pass with your law. Your cal. choice is great if making long distance shots. I haven't looked at the overall length of the brass and combined bullet/ brass but IF they are not exact or less than a .50 BMG I would tend to think that the difference of the two side x side could be seen. Another option to argue would be to keep a dummy .50 round to prove the .50 would not chamber in the .416. Good Luck and happy hunting.

It actually would not chamber there select-fire:

    The .50BMG is 12.7x99 ... While the .416 barrett is 10.5x83.

So it is not simply a necked down thing. they are not interchangeable.

MR. why's govt may think that way but they will not [at least i think so] over here.
