The new coin was designed for one purpose: to get money for the mint.

I doubt it will ever be more than a novelty. It does not even have a date on the obverse or reverse. It is on the edge of the coin. And some of the coins made it out with no edge lettering.

You'd be dumb to ever pay more than a dollar for it.

A guy from work gets' em in rolls from the Bank and sells them at a 25% profit to collectors on Ebay... I guess the sealed bank rolls are hard to find right now...

They tried Twice to make a Dollar coin and most all of them are out of circulation now. Susan B and Saqajaweia coins were a bust.

Because they keep making paper dollars. I think it is time for a coin!

If ya carry a bit of cash, the coins would wear out your pocket..I prefer the hundred dollar bills. [;)] you can put a bunch in your pocket. In fact I dont leave the house with any change in my pockets, it all goes into a gun buying jug..[:p]

Last time they tried that (making a 1.00 dollar coin) they were all over New York.I was in Vegas for vacation had three or four of them in my pocket, couldnt use them in any machines so I decided to tip a bartender with all four.He looks at me and says: what cracker jax box did you get these out of you cheap b@&*%RD, I almost crapped my pants,he had no idea of the dollar bill coins.

I predict failure for this coin too. They still don't get it. It's still the size of a quarter.

Because people hoarded them as collectors items. I have a number in BU condition, but they are only worth a dollar so far.

My bank will only let a customer have 10 at a time. So I got 10 a day for 2 days. On the third day I traded 15 loose coins and a $10 bill for a roll.

I buy and spend dollar coins all the time. Now that the Presidential coins are out I haven't seen any Butch bucks or Sacajawea's at the bank.

Banks here have all kinds of them. I am surprised they are a shortage in some places. The teller at Wal-Mart the other day told me she was told to give them out to get rid of them.

I like spending dollar coins. They are great for saving also. We have a 5 gallon glass water bottle I put all my change in. When it is full I am going to have some fun!

Last week I was at the bank and bought 2 rolls of each of the 3 kinds of dollar coins and dropped them in the big change jug in the family room. Our bank has loads of Susan B, Sacajawea, and the Washington dollars.

I had read on a previous post that "In God We Trust" was not on the coin. Is this true?

No it's on there I posted in error but you have to look close on the edge and most people can't read it.[:D][:D][:D]

The only way this coin will work is for the govt to "grow a set" and quit making the $1 bill. If the $1 bill is costing so much then just quit it.

This is the 4th shot at a base metal dollar. They made the larger Eisenhower dollar from 1971 to 1978. I have looked at the new Washington dollar and have been unimpressed. It lacks the detail of the classic Morgan and Peace dollars. The one I saw was struck off center with rough edges.

I think most people keep missing the point. Dollar coins will probably NEVER catch on but there are HUGE bucks to be made in the collector field. Just look at ebay and other sites that sell coins. Look at what the state quarters are going for. You can pay 50 bucks for some quarters! Tell me that ain't some markup! Tom

PS. The mint is just probably doing what some high paid lobbyist has paid millions to senators to bring about. Nothing moves in DC without the grease of millions of dollars.

The dollar coin will never be used as cash as long as they make them the same size as the quarter. I never quite understood why the half dollar died out of circulation. A dollar coin needs to be larger than the half dollar, no matter what they make it out of.

This thread got me thinking so I stopped off at my bank on the way home. They had a ton of the them so I purchased a roll.
