I assume you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up...Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution.
Suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

So I, decided to check it out before I sent it forward. I sent the following email to the Sears Customer Service Department:
I received this email and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your store. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item even if it was cheaper at the other store.
Here is their answer to my email.....................
Dear Customer:
Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Unbelieveable, Way to go Sears! Usually big corporations go out of their way to screw the employees. Good to see a company stand up for the workers. I know where I'll spend my money next time I get to the big city.[;)] 0 -

Sears was bought by a guy who used to own K-Mart.
He is in it for the money, but also knows a good thing when he sees it.
With their 100+ history, providing quality goods and services, it is a long-term money maker.
Sure, some of the stuff is garbage, but since it is the closest place to get paint and jeans, I hope they do not turn into another China-Martr.
While Sears has taken a hit in recent years regarding a lack on employee interest in providing relevant and interested customer service, those points are now on the front burner.
It might sound like I'm a booster, but rather, I know someone who bought their stock CHEAP and is now doing really, really well. About 700% gain in the last 5 years. I could not pull up numbers for more than that, but he was buying from '96 or so.
If they want to say "It is where America shops", they appear to be talking the talk.0 -
As of this past summer, my wife and I will never, ever, ever step foot into another Sears store. Talk about an arrogant, customer-insensitive, wagon peddler for the ages! How the mighty have fallen. Sears and K-Mart truly deserve each other and they'll only strangle each other to death in due time with their lousy management, oafish store help and inferior lines of merchandise. We purchase major appliances from Sears, but that's about it. When they have a sale, it is hard to beat anyone else on those items.
I have all the tools that I need, so buying more is useless.
And, I'd not touch Sears clothing with a 50' pole.

Look close when buying sears tools. I was looking before christmas and found some of their tools marked; MADE IF CHINA So they are already getting like Wal Mart. 0 -
the CEO that took over kmart/sears is well known for taking down a dying co. gracefully and parting out the assets. that's what he's done with everything so far. I thought that was the death knell for them both.
?? I never had a problem with service at either kmart or sears. I'd count it as 1 bad apple. don't sweat it.
that is unusual to hear a large corp. treating their employees with any kind of dignity. I always did go to kmart first before wallymart 'cuz I'd rather give them my hard-earned $$ before Wmart, but now I sure am going to go to kmart/sears before I try WalFart. two thumbs up.
there's hope for sears/kmart after all, a co. heading towards the exit isn't going to act like that. give them your business if you want to see them stay in busines.0 -

Our local Sears store also has a horrible rep with customer service. But this thread makes me at least put them back on the bottom of my list of places to shop. It's a real itty-bitty store with some appliances, tools and electronics, but no clothes or anything.
Since there's an independent appliance store here, I support him as much as I can.
Tools? My next door neighbor is the Snap-On man. Big red and white truck right at the curb, so when I need a tool, I suck it up and pay his prices. Besides he's an outstanding neighbor who has helped me more than anyoneI know over the last 12 years, and the tools are warrenteed better than Craftsman.0 -

Saniel I purchased all sears appliances 6 years ago when I moved into my present house.All those appliances are dead,had to replace them all.Would not touch anything of theirs now.Also had a friend who had a sears card my wife advised him not too but didnt take any notice.Had an accident couldnt work but had insurance on the card.sears insurance paid some of it sold it too a collection agency who came after him untill he mailed them copies of his insurance,it went thru several collection angencies untill it got into the hans of a lawyer and it was sorted.I wont step over there threshold personally. 0 -
For everyone's information, if you have to leave a job because of mobilization, your employer is required by law to not penalize you in any way, shape and/or form while your gone. That includes keeping your job available for your return, with no loss in pay or position. It includes any raises that you would have earned had you not been deployed. That includes maintaining benefits for you and your dependents as if you were still working there every day. That includes any vacation time you accrue while working. Basically, they give you the benefits without you working for them, and without them paying you your salary.
If any employer violates this law, they can be shut down or sued for the difference.0 -

Wel my last sears appliance failed.large chest freezer 5 years old,went awy for a few days got back and it had fail during that period.Luckily I keep the bottom covered in plastic gallon ice crem tup full of water that is frozen,but lost abouy $120 worth of food on the top half.Beats me why anyone would buy their appliances. 0 -

My question is, Why buy appliances from sears when you can go to your local whirlpool guy. Get the same thing for less money and get better service from the local whirlpool guy than what you ever would get from sears. Sears runs thier service men ragad and hardly pay them anything.0 -
Wont buy a Kenmore appliance ever again. Bought a Kenmore Elite Refridgerator a couple years ago and the door collapsed into the body. Now you have to put something in front of it to keep it closed. We called to see what could be done about it. They said there was no recall because it was not a health issue and therefore the solution was to buy a new refridgerator if I didnt want to deal with the door opening on its own. My door almost fell off!!!! If that is not a health issue then WTH is? 0 -

Went above the local store... even corporate headquarters would not help us.
Gun runner... think of all the free advertising they are getting by doing this. The cost of that advertising would be much more than what they are paying out now. If you think for one second that they are doing this out of the goodness of their heart then you need a reality check!0 -

Actually I think Sears is another china mart.... If you look at the tools most of them are made in mexico or china; and sears just 'stamps' their name on it. [V]
However even though the steel may come from another country the wrenches (craftsman) say "forged in USA". [^]
Most of the hammers and small hatchets are also american made. [^]
Dont know about the lawn mowers though. I think they may be mixed parts with some american components. Although it is good if it 100% USA parts; however that is very hard to come by nowadays evan with a know brand like chevrolet.
.... on a side note: I was at home depot the other day and looking at this leaf rake that claimed to be american, but it was only 'assembeled' here. [:(!]0 -
