RA Update. Ranting, getting frustrated
Well, I haven't posted anything for quite some time dealing with my RA job. To catch some up to speed, I became an RA my second semester here at college and got put on the worst hall in the freshman dorm. I'm not saying it's the worst hall, I've had all the other RAs and the RD tell me the same. (and they're right)
But for a long time they were pretty good, only had to get on them every once in awhile for being loud in the middle of the night. However, lately it's like the wheels are falling off the wagon. These kids are just plain stupid![:(!][V] I don't know what to do. They're at the point in the school year where they don't care if they get written up. I just had to write up a room for visitation hours violation. I let the guy have 3 girls in his room over a half hour past visitation hours.
I honestly don't know what to do because when I do write people up and they should be doing community service for it, the RD lets them off because she doesn't want to deal with them. I'm open to any suggestions other than just let them do what they want. [;)] I'm thinking of arming myself with my airsoft gun and going down in a blaze of glory!!! [:D] Maybe not...I'm just really tired and need to go to bed.

It's a tough time of year to try to manage undergraduates.
Just do your job. If the people above you are too lame to do their jobs, then that's not really your problem, and does not reflect on you.
If the people above you suggest to you that students need more slack at the end of the school year, just make them explain what that means. "Which rules can I let them break?" "How many times can I let them break the rules?" At this time of year, how much alcohol contra-indicates "no alcohol"? And if they can give you answers to those questions in writing, then you're all good.
Otherwise, just do your job, and if those above you are too lame to do theirs, then it's not really your problem.

CRAP, i have three days left, what are you going to do kick me out of college?
Thats the way I always looked at the end of the semesters. When in the dorms, the last three weeks went like this third to last was the biggest party week of the whole year, second was the second biggest party week of the whole year, and the last week was the third biggest party week of the whole year.0 -
Kick their asses out and put the little heathens in pup tents for a week.......wait your in college aren't you? Never mind. Go Army! 0 -
Well i have about that same problem and on my floor we say one and you are done. They are warned once the next person they see is Protective services they get the point real fast. They do not like a 300 dollar ticket they will shut up. 0
