Here in ILLnois, you have to be a car dealer to buy anything at them. There is one about 2 miles from me. I attended to watch one night and it is amazing the wholesale price some of them bring. Really cheap,,,,only to be found at the used car lot the next day..nambu

Nambu, perhaps a close by state would allow your participation? I saw an '02 Winstar, perfect shape, go for $2600!

No one else ever been to one? Boy, you guys either don't know what you're missing or else you are jealous of me! Probably both! Yuk yuk![;)]

I did a complete inspection of the car today. The trip odometer doesn't work. The right rear passenger door window crank handle was broken, and you can only release the hatchback from inside the vehicle as the key won't do it (cable off?).

Steam cleaned the engine, no evidence of oil leaks. Got a jug of Castrol Syntex 10-30 and a new filter for the weekend project.[:)]

Pretty darn satisfied with the deal.[:D]

I used to haul cars in (mostly repoes) and out (to dealers that bought them) of those auctions.

You are right about there being some great deals at them. But I have also seen some lemons come out of them. I recomend going the day before and checking the cars out before bidding. Most of those auctions have a preveiw day the day before for people to look at the cars comming up on the block.

I agree you can get some deals now.But when tax refunds come forget it,thats the time to sell.My best advice is spend 800 to 1000 less at auction than your willing to spend. Then after a couple of months use some of that money fixing it up a little. Now if your lucky, you'll have enough left to buy a gun to shoot it with later down the road.

There are some dealer only auctions, but there are auto auctions open to the public in Illinois also.
