    Here's what I had to say;

    This legislation is either an attempt at outlawing weapons based solely on their appearance or typical liberal nickle dime tactics designed to make yet more law abiding citizens criminal in the eyse of the so called law and a vehicle to destroy the rights guaranteed us under the US Constitution. Legally owned firearms do not kill people, regardless of their appearance. It is criminals who kill people, plain and simple. I have been a firearm owner for over 40 of my 53 years and NONE of my firearms have ever killed anyone subsequent to my possession of them. Exceptions prior to my ownership are solely those of surplus weapons acquired after World Wars I and II. These, as evidenced by the government's support of the Civilian Marksmanship Program are, for the most part, National treasures. Recent legislation, misnamed HR 1022, "Assault Weapons Ban" can in no way deter crime, as such weapons can and will be owned subsequent to any such legislation by violent criminals should such legislation be enacted. Moereover, this bill redefines the very term "assault weapon" in such a way as to attempt to encompass a large genre of rifles that, in fact and by definition, are not assault rifles. An assault rifle, by definition, must be capable of full auomatic fire. In my 47 years as a firearms enthusiast I have yet to ever see in use a fully automatic weapon. Ever I have seen AR 15's, FALs, M1As, SKS's, AK 47's, HKs, Thompsons, Garands, Ruger Mini14's, Daewoos and semi automatic rifles that I cannot recall but I have yet to see an assault rifle. A pistol grip or bayonet lug, even a detachable magzine does not make an assault rifle. Fully automatic capability does, and they are already illegal.

    I've always heard that internet petions do not work because you must have a signature on it and that these petitions are used only by spammers to get email addresses. I don't want to be a negative nelly, but is this the form we want to do? I am always ready to step in to save the Second Admendment!

    Thelma's my rep, too - she supports the 2nd Amendment and I will continue to support her. I signed the petition - thanks for the info.
