NFL?
I was under the impression that the Wild Card Team played the division winner with the worst record- provided that it was from a different division. I see NY Giants played Philadelphia Eagles. I thought those teams were in the same division- at least they used to be- so was that rule changed?

They keep changing the rules in football.
FUnny how every year, the rules change.
In baseball everything a small rule change every ten years and that's all they talk about for the next two years.0 -

The cowboys are also in the same division. So, there was an extra team from the division that had to play. Because the cowboys had a better record then the giants, the cowboys did not play the eagles.0 -
The highest seeded team plays the lowest. Bears#1,Saints#2,Eagles#3,Seahawks#4,Dallas#5,Giants#6.
That's why now the #1Bears play #4Seattle and #2Saints play #3 Eagles.0 -
The entire playoff scenario is in need of some serious tweaking. Why should the team with the best conference record be rewarded with playing the winner of the Wild Card Game with worst record? That's more than a gift - no? 0 -

Look at it from the other angle. Why should the worst teams play each other? It gives teams incentive to win. Otherwise teams would want to be seeded lower to have an easier opponent. Basketball and baseball playoffs are the same way. Don't know about hockey.0 -
I think the idea behind best vs worst is so the game between the best two teams won't be in the second week of play-offs, leaving the championship game to be anti-climactic between the best team and some team that has had only doormats in it's way. If the seat pickers are correct, the #1&2 teams face each other in the championship game- I just remember that teams weren't supposed to play within their division- but appears that has changed. 0 -
