My dad has a set of Jana 7-12 zoom binoculars that are from the mid 70's (or I am assuming). Any how they look like a reasonably well built optic but are not holding up so well.
Was/is the Jana a decent set or are they just cheepies. If they are good and worth fixing where would a guy look to get that done?0 -
What makes binoculars look double. The last two sets of binocs I've had after a while you start seeing double through them. Anybody else have or seen this? I thought at first it was me but some of my buddys see double through them. 0 -
I have a set of Leica's, duovids 8x12x42's. They are without a doubt the best glass I've owned. They are a bit heavy for packing in the brush so I went and got a pair of zeiss conquest 10x30's and took a chance on some steiner 9x40's to compare them to. The zeiss are pretty impressive. The wife like's the steiners so I'll keep them but the zeiss seem to work better for me so I think I will be wearing them this hunting season and the leica's are going to be used for hunting from close to camp or off horseback. Just fyi in case you are wondering about wasting your money on some new binox. 0 -
NIKON has several in that price range 0 -
I have some Nikon binocs, and I can tell you that the lenses in them do NOT live up to the reputation that they built over decades.

I love Nikons. We used to be an avid antelope hunting family. All had the Nikon Travelite($150ish) series. They all still have them. They are great but where I was Elk, Deer, etc hunting all the time, I needed a tougher set and went to the Mountaineer 10x25 model and they are super. Many many miles and game on them and very satisfied. Still have and love. Believe they were in the $250-300 range. Our eyes are all different though so head to a sports store and check them out for yourself. You will get a nice set in the $300 range. 0 -
I'd recommend the Simmons Master Series made by Meade. I just got a pair in 8x42. They were about $159 delivered from opticsplanet.com. Very nice optics, roof-prism, compact, twist-up eye-cups, long eye-relief, and lifetime warranty. Can't ask for much more in that price range.

I have a two sets of steiners 8x30s green rubber armoured, they work great,I got mine back when honda was giving them away for buying a 400 4x4 atv, I purchased them off of friends who couldnt use them, they have seperate focus adj. for each eye and they couldnt figure out how to adjust them, they then [2000] sold for 400.00 now i believe they have come down in price, they are the hunting series and very could quality IMHO, made in germany, check online or cabelas, Loko[:D] 0 -

Watch E-bay for a used set of Asahi Pentax. I found a pair of 10X50 for 10 bucks that was missing one eyepiece. I sent the glasses to:
REDLICH BINOCULAR
501 HUGHES RD
HAMPSTEAD , NC 28443
1-800-414-6019
and for 106 dollars got back a completely refurbished set of high quality binocs.

I cant talk good enough about Steiner Military Marine 8X30 should run you about $200. They also have a Predator Pro series under $300 that is supposed to contrast game and their surroundings, havent held any but if they worked it would be a great investment. 0 -
Second the Steiner Military/Marines. I have the 7x50. The 50mm lens has more than double the area of the 30mm, but then the price is more than double too. They are awesome in low light. 0 -
I have a pair of Nikon Monarch 10x42. used them last year deer hunting. they worked great for me. 0
