Related to the Other Thread about Oil Changes
I know the oil companies and car manufacturers recommend changing the oil in your car every 3000 miles. I've read in more than one auto magazine that the 3000 mile rule was concocted by oil companies to sell more oil. The writers recommended only every 7500 miles. Now, I've taken the middle road and do it about every 5000 miles and have never had a problem. What are your thoughts on this?

While under mfg warrenty ya better at least follow their recommendations. I used a great quality oil and when I change the oil make sure that it hasn't broke down and still gives protection. 0 -

Jeep/Mopar recommends 6,000 miles between changes in the 5.7 hemi. I have decided to go with the 5,000 mile rule as well.0 -
it has gotten more expensive to change your oil,and in my newer vehicles 04 toyota tacoma and a 01 jeep xj cherokee limited i might consider changing at 5000mi,toyota has 8600miles on it and the jeep has 35000 so it probably would save us some money in the long run. some warrantys will make you take it to the dealers to have it changed i believe,but with that being said my wife did take her jeep to the dealer when i was out of town and they only charged 22.95 and gave her new wiper blades to boot![:0] 0 -
I wait till the little sign on the dash lights up and says "Change Engine Oil".
If it doesn't talk to me then I change it every 5K.0 -
With advances in technology creating cleaner running engines even the auto makers recommend changing oil at higher mileages. Depending on the severity of your driving conditions Toyota and Lexus recommend either 5000 or 7500 miles. That schedule is working fine for me. 0 -
My Chevy Venture has an oil life meter and it tells me when to change the oil, I drive 300 to 500 miles per day so I watch out after all this type of stuff. This is what I have found:
Castrol GTX: 3,500 Miles
Castrol Synthetic Blend: 9,000 Miles
Castrol Syntec: 9,700 Miles
I use the synthetic blend due to the fact that the full synthetic cost twice as much and only pulls 700 miles more, and when you change your oil every other month every little bit helps0 -
Castrol Syntec every 10,000.
All my new cars since the stuff came out.
That's about 7 new cars.
Federal laws prevent the mfgs. from imposing restrictions requiring you to do maintenance at a dealer to keep your warranty in force.

It really depends on what you are putting in the engine to begin with and what type of filters you are using. If you are putting 3000 miles on Amsol or Redline, you are just wasting your money. If your buying the cheapest stuff wal mart has, then 3000 might not be a bad idea.
I change my trucks oil about every 4000 miles and the Honda recommends 10,000 miles for our Civic.0 -
As I said before somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 miles on the oil it might get changed. Full synthetics and bypass oil filter systems make oil last a LONG TIME. I've saved hundreds of gallons of oil and thousands of dollars using this.

I have the 5.7 Hemi, and my maintenance log book says 3,000 miles. I figure (and the dealer's oil change guys have said the same) if I'm 1000 over or under it's close enough.0 -
NAPA oil and NAPA Gold filters, every 3K. Never any problems. 0 -
Any of the trucks i have ever owned or used it was always 3,000 or less and and manufatures oil filter. I know a fellow on older motors would change every 2,000 miles. 0
