Nugent vs. journalist Tom Plate
Just read both commentaries over at CNN.com. Ted was more tactful than I expected, but right as usual. As for Plate, I pity people with such little reasoning ability...

Does journalist Tom Plate really believe this? If so, he is as delusioned as the murderer responsible for this tragedy. A human (who happened to be Korean) with evil in his heart and mind was responsible for this carnage; the handguns happened to be his tool of choice. It is this sort of liberal rhetoric, the kind that removes blame from the person and deflects it, that makes me sick in the pit of my stomach.

In the hands of a well trained and sane individual, it can be an effective tool of conflict resolution. From the coverage I saw, it appeared that all law enforcement officers who showed up were armed with, uh, a conflict resolution tool. Too bad they did not make it inside before the carnage was over. Or better yet, too bad a student or professor, or someone on the inside was not able to have a, uh, conflict resolution tool; remember, VT and countless other place are "Gun Free Zones". I guess Cho did not know.
"Far fewer guns in America would logically result in far fewer deaths from people pulling the trigger. The probability of the Virginia Tech gun massacre happening would have been greatly reduced if guns weren't so easily available to ordinary citizens."-Tom Plate
Fewer cheeseburgers could reduce the probability of heart disease in ordinary citizens. An total ban on smoking would reduce the risk of lung cancer in ordinary citizens. If people did not have sex, AIDS would cease to exist. People are not about to give those up because this is America and America is founded on Freedom.
"Last month, I was robbed at 10 in the evening in the alley behind my home. As I was carrying groceries inside, a man with a gun approached me where my car was parked. What was to stop him? A near-death experience does focus the mind. We need to get rid of our guns."-Tom Plate
I regret that Mr. Plate was the victim of such a cowardly act of aggression; but, no doubt it any less stressful or potentially deadly had he been confronted by someone with a baseball bat or knife.

As I leave out of the GUN STORE and get into my car (with NRA stickers in three places and a bumper sticker that reads "you can't beat a woman that shoots") I can't help but think to myself...I really HOPE and pray nobody tries to take advantage of me and I have a little peace of mind in knowing I have my handgun there in case someone does.
The days go by and not one time have I HAD to defend myself. I hear of the random guy....who happens to FIGHT AGAINST GUN RIGHTS...that gets held up while in a dark alley with NO protection by himself. I wonder WHY the bad guys pick these grown men (like Tom Plate) to hold up and not a woman (like myself) to take advantage of.0 -
they do... when they run off after seeing a would-be victim go for their gun, the crime doesn't happen. and doesn't get the newspaper more sales. 0 -
